Steve Rosenberg, BBC News: Ukraine invasion: Would Putin press the nuclear button?
Let me begin with an admission.
So many times, I've thought: "Putin would never do this." Then he goes and does it.
"He'd never annex Crimea, surely?" He did.
"He'd never start a war in the Donbas." He did.
"He'd never launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine." He has.
I've concluded that the phrase "would never do" doesn't apply to Vladimir Putin.
And that raises an uncomfortable question: "He'd never press the nuclear button first. Would he?"

Update #2: Would Vladimir Putin actually use nuclear weapons? (The Guardian)
WNU Editor: There is only one scenario that I can see Putin using a nuclear weapon in the current crisis. If the war is not going as planned, a tactical nuclear device will be used on an important Ukraine military target to force a quick capitulation of the Ukraine government and a warning to the West to stay out.
Will it prevent Joe from getting his ice cream?
ReplyDeleteNo? Then Joe ain't worried about 'no nukler' launch
If the supply chain is FUBARRED by Joe, Miss Nancy could always dish some ice cream from her $24,000 refrigerators into Joe's dog bowl.
If Russia does go nuclear, I wouldn't rule out the US and it's allies respibsubg by using it's own nukes against Russian targets.
ReplyDeletefur sure bro man da US be respibsub
ReplyDeleteI noticed my typo awhile back but didn't deem it worth addressing straight away as I thought the context would make it obvious as to what I meant.
DeleteI meant "responding." Of course I think you knew that.
🤣
DeleteWe are at war and Putin having his back against the wall, everything is possible.
ReplyDeletenah man, it looked like a russian word
ReplyDeleteI don't know Russian so I wouldn't know. I apologize for the typo. As I said, I thought the meaning obvious from the context. Obviously it wasn't. In the future if I spot a typo I will always try and move quicker to address it.
DeleteIt my hope that Putin's Generals and inner circle convene and decide to drag him out of the Kremlin and execute him in the street.
ReplyDeleteThis would be optimal.
DeleteUnctuous
ReplyDeleteThose whi actually know me would say that I am honest, sincere, kind, and humble, essentially the complete opposite of the word you use to describe me. You do not know me nor have you taken the time to learn about me even though I made it very easy for you.
DeleteIf you are going to comment here, it would be appreciated if you would engage in discussing the topics at hand. Taunts such as yours add nothing of value.
When a,leader does what Putin has done, expecting other top officials to remove him would be reasonable. Russ suggested it and I agree with his assessment.
Do you have evidence for your claim?
ReplyDeleteBecause there is plenty of evidence on live TV right now of children and civilians being targeted and killed by Russian invaders
Sorry mate, either produce the evidence or I'll go with my history knowledge here where Russia(Soviet union) also famously starved and mass murdered Ukrainians
Ukraine has never invaded ANY country
ReplyDeleteRussia invaded plenty and is in the process of invading one right now
So the guy @701am.. what civilization do we have when we stand by and let a mad man take the entire World hostage, forcing us to watch him murder civilians?
And his claim that the Ukrainians are Nazis.. please, he's almost as believable as Pelosi or Schiff in the US.. The Ukrainian president's family FOUGHT the nazis, and he himself is Jewish.
Just how retarded can people be?
Also may I add that there's plenty of recorded video out there now where Russian forces after being captured admitted they were tricked into crossing the border into Ukraine? They were told it is an exercise.. so many lies by Putin. You defend this swine?
ReplyDeleteFREE RUSSIANS: ARREST PUTIN! IMMEDIATELY
He must be held accountable for his actions, or you will, and we do not want this. We are not against Russians, I personally have Russian friends. Do not follow Putin
"Those whi actually know me would say that I am honest, sincere, kind, and humble,"
ReplyDeletePositing during work hours. Are you charging clients for those same hours?
When I replied to you was bayern meetings as I am now and clients are only charged for work done as world be consistent with ethical business practices. I'm sure you have heard of multi tasking.
DeleteIf Russia uses nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear country, it becomes a pariah state. I don't see how sanctions could end in the medium term. It would also end non-proliferation. Every country that can will start acquiring nuclear weapons so as not to be subject to nuclear blackmail (China won't want this as invading Taiwan becomes infeasible if Taipei can nuke Beijing and other mainland cities). Not to mention it could escalate things even further.
ReplyDeleteThe Russians clearly have to realize this. It would be a disaster for them long term. This is not a case where an invading army is poised to take Moscow. There is no possible justification. hopefully this will provoke a mutiny and some Russian soldier will shoot Putin in the head.
