Putin is NOT crazy and the Russian invasion is NOT failing. The West's delusions about this war - and its failure to understand the enemy - will prevent it from saving Ukraine

Wishful thinking has the upper hand in the battle to shape Western perceptions of the war in Ukraine.
Sympathy for the outnumbered and outgunned defenders of Kyiv has led to the exaggeration of Russian setbacks, misunderstanding of Russian strategy, and even baseless claims from amateur psychoanalysts that Putin has lost his mind.

"Sanctioned Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov's 500ft-long $800million megayacht - one of the biggest in the world - is SEIZED by German authorities amid crackdown on Putin's oligarchs" - Daily Mail
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of support did thus 'oligarch' give Putin?
- Lend him money?
- Vote for him?
- Donate to his campaign?
What?
Am I envious of Usmanov? You betcha. But it is a sin to be envious.
Do I think the deals made to build that wealth were sometimes shady? Yeah, but don't you have to prove it in court?
Solyndra was shady. It went bankrupt, Did the principals take a haircut or were they richer than before they created Solyndra? I bet the latter.
Sure Putin is evil. But I see a lot of the rest of it as one power structure trying to scavenge another power structure.
I see a lot of it as no different than Rome and Carthage going at it, because there can only be one boing kid on the block. Could the senatorial families of Rome and Carthage intermarried? Sure but then it is still game of musical chairs some senators might have fallen in relative rank. Can't have that.
Do Russian political campaigns cost a lot? If they don't, what have the oligarchs done? Not pay a living wage? If that is a crime lock up AOC and others. She didn't pay all her taxes.
