New Pentagon Strategy Will Not Rule Out Using Nuclear Weapons Against Non-Nuclear Threats

Bloomberg: Pentagon’s Strategy Won’t Rule Out Nuclear Use Against Non-Nuclear Threats

(Bloomberg) -- The Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy rejected limits on using nuclear weapons long championed by arms control advocates and in the past by President Joe Biden.

Citing burgeoning threats from China and Russia, the Defense Department said in the document released Thursday that “by the 2030s the United States will, for the first time in its history face two major nuclear powers as strategic competitors and potential adversaries.”

In response, the US will “maintain a very high bar for nuclear employment” without ruling out using the weapons in retaliation to a non-nuclear strategic threat to the homeland, US forces abroad or allies.

Update: Pentagon Reverses Strategy, No Longer Rules Out Use Of Nukes Against Non-Nuclear Threat While Putin Declares ‘No Reason’ For Russia To Use Nukes (New Wars)

WNU Editor: This is a major policy change, and one that President Biden hmself promised not to change during the 2020 Presidential campaign.

The Defense Department’s 2022 National Defense Strategy is here .... 2022 National Defense Strategy of the United States.

Update #2: Going through the 2022 National Strategy document right now. From what I have read so far, it is a document that reflects how tense and dangerous the world is becoming. In the meantime the critics are appalled by what they are reading .... 'A Terrifying Document': Critics Say Biden Nuclear Policy Makes the World More Dangerous (Common Dreams).

Update #3: Putin is always reminding people of this (see below):

  1. Once upon a time the USA was the only country in the world that "controlled" another piece of sovereign territory, from the safety of an air-conditioned office cubicle, using relatively cheap armed airborne drones.

Once a can of worms like that has been opened it is, of course, going to be used by anyone with the capability and the motivation. The advantages are too great and the risks are too few.

The nukes dropped in '45 can be sequestered off into their own little Pandora's Box, as modern game theory didn't take root until the advent of a second nuclear power. However if a nation were to successfully utilize a nuclear strike today I think that the precedent set inevitably snowballs into an atomic version of what we now experience with drones: a race to the bottom with the cheapest, most easily constructed versions being readily available and used to great capacity by lesser international powers who's rationality cannot always be depended upon.

I'm not saying anything new here. It's just interesting that we now have a complete example of the cycle to compare it to.

Dropping nukes saved over a million lives. Invading the Japanese mainland would have been worse than Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tawara combined. It would have been much worse.

Japan had an active nuclear bomb effort. To obtain material they used a Clusius column and another method. Centrifuges is not the only way to obtain fissile material.

Japan, Germany, Italy and Russia (USSR) initiated WW2. Did Asswipe forget that? Did Asswipe forget the Winter War with Finland. did Asswipe forget the Russian invasion of Poland?

Did Asswipe forget Japan invaded china back in the 1930s for reasons ...

Asswipe might try to to construct a complete coherence sentence. The Kamala look is a bad look for Asswipe.

  5. this change is significant--and passes with barely a blip on the american consciousness.
such talk since Obama ii (or before?) has made it clear that whatever the conservativeness of US cold-war strategists, our modern foreign-policy establishment is cavalier in an area where they might not even have weapons parity.
they don't care how it looks, either, to citizens of the Non-west, to make such a change...

    no self-awareness.

  6. Schizo is the following

"and the only country (Schizo meant the US; this part is true) that used a nuclear weapon because no other nation had such weapons () what follows is the lie by Schizoid) but despite that initiated a world war"

Again Schizo (3L:5) knows that Russia, Japan, Germany and Italy started WW2. Or maybe schiz does not know and is schizoid.

"The Winter War, also known as the First Soviet-Finnish War, was a war between the Soviet Union and Finland. The war began with a Soviet invasion of Finland on 30 November 1939"

Schiz fuck might not know that 1939 come before 1940, 1941 or 1942.
