U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Gives His Assessment On The Russia - Ukraine War

CNN: Ukraine is ‘making progress’ on the battlefield thanks to skill of soldiers and strategic use of supplied weapons, Defense secretary says

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he believes Ukraine is “making progress,” in the Kherson region of the country as they continue to counter Russia’s invasion, adding there has been a “kind of change in the battlefield dynamics.”

Austin attributed the change to the skill of Ukrainian soldiers and their strategic use of weapons supplied by US and NATO allies, specifically their use of the high mobility air rocket systems, or HIMARS. He made the comments in an exclusive interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that aired Sunday on “Fareed Zakaria GPS.”

“What we’re seeing now is a kind of change in the battlefield dynamics,” Austin said. “They’ve done very, very well in the Kharkiv area and moved to take advantage of opportunities. The fight in the – the Kherson region’s going a bit slower, but they’re making progress.”

Update #2: Pentagon chief warns ‘no checks on Mr. Putin’ amid nuclear threats (The Hill)

WNU Editor: Russian media agrees with the US Secretary of Defense that the steady flow of Western arms shipments in making a difference in the war, as well crediting the US in providing actual real-time intelligence via satellites to Ukrainian ground forces. This provision of direct US intelligence and direction is (of course) not brought up in this interview.

Another thing that was not brought up was the impact that the mobilizations of hundreds of thousands of Russian troops will have on the battle in the coming months. I am sure that deployment and its impact on the war and how to counte4r it is what concerns the Pentagon and other relevant Western agencies the most right now.
