Interesting video of explosion at Engels Airbase. At 15 sec, sound of something passing overhead. At 42 sec, light from explosion. 19 secs later - sound of blast, about 6.2 km away (speed of sound 326.34 m/s, dry air -8 C.) pic.twitter.com/rJ897Sv3Wv

WNU editor: If this video is accurate. That is not a sound of a drone overhead. That could be a jet flying overhead. After-all, there is an air base nearby. Or .... here is the scary part .... it could be the sound of a missile or cruise missile flying overhead. And that explosion was massive to be seen and heard that far away.
What do you guys/gals think?
First observations:
ReplyDeleteFlyover sound - not a drone, definitely jet engine powered
Appearance of Huge explosion visual - not what you'd expect of a drone either, and even too big for a cruise missile almost.. but, as the white balance was all jacked up in this video, and if I had to be a guessing man, cruise missile is where my money is at
sound - yes loud, but again, this could be because of the cold air/echoing surrounding (apartment blocks) and the mic.. you can hear foot steps and the dog are way upleveled
plus you barely hear any wind resistance you'd normally hear of wings/a pilot manoeuvring.. even though absolutely possible during this short period, it seems to me the object was flying very low, very straight, perhaps 400-600m altitude
ReplyDeleteJet. Could be unmanned. War has lasted long enough for western specialists to have helped Ukraine master this technology.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a jet. That is one large explosion for a drone to have caused. But maybe someones testing new tech over there?
ReplyDeleteRussians will know soon enough when the debris is sorted out.
ReplyDeleteI’d be scared now if I was Russian cause these bases were hundreds of miles behind front line and caused massive explosions
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me, based on the times noted in the tweet, that the object was flying below the speed of sound. Also, no car alarms were set off by the sonic boom, while one alarm did twitter briefly when the sound of the explosion arrived (about 19 seconds after the light of the explosion). The light of the explosion was seen c. 27 seconds after the object passed.
ReplyDeleteThis fits with the info which andre martyanov passed along--that it was a re-puposed target drone from the societ era, as stated above.
Although all of the above assumes that the object passed more-or-less over head.
DeleteBut they did go overhead
DeleteSounds like a Jet to me. Very interesting video.
