BBC: Russia's Putin scraps trademark year-end news conference

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not hold his traditional big year-end news conference, the Kremlin has said, for the first time in 10 years.

But spokesman Dmitry Peskov said "we hope the president will after all find an opportunity to talk" to the media.

No reason was given for the cancellation, but it comes amid growing unease among Russians over Mr Putin's decision to invade Ukraine in February. Russian troops have suffered a series of painful reverses since then.

WNU Editor: I did not expect an annual year-end news conference this year. The Kremlin and everyone else is Russia is totally focused on the Ukraine war right now. A 5-6 hour marathon news conference on topics that would mostly not cover the war makes no sense at this moment in time.

  1. There is a reason for cancelling an annual news conference that has longstanding tradition beyond the Ukrainian War. I think the reason for the cancellation can only be the current health of Mr. Putin. I don't believe he is in the condition for such a marathon news conference at this time.

  2. Lmao what incurable disease did the daily mail say he has this time.

The guy looks as fit and active as ever. Still attending his hockey games with the other senior citizens.

  3. If Putin is still undergoing cancer treatments, he definitely could hold a 6 hour press conference. Ahead of a chemo & radiation treatment, they fill you full of steroids to get you over the debilitating effects of the treatment. You can be up 24 hours straight. My old man was and he traded stock during those steroid highs.

Due to the steroids he might look puffy. Might. Even if he were puffy after steroids injections, there might be a lag time. So you could time the treatment before the news conference but also before the puffiness sets in.

Also if Putin had blood cancer, those a treatable in ways that other cancers are not. Other cancer form masses behind cartilage or other cells. On top of that they have a higher pressure.so it is hard for drugs to get to the actual cancer cells. For these reasons blood cancer is easier to treat. Or so I read in a 2016 issue of Scientific American. Putin could be in remission.

Cancer, remission or whatever, WNU's analysis may be right. And we do know he is pro Russian to a fault.
