U.S. Senate And House Agree To Add $45 Billion More To President Biden's DEfense Budget Request For 2023

Politico: House, Senate negotiators agree to add $45B to Biden’s defense budget

The policy bill would authorize a total of $847 billion for national defense for fiscal 2023, if approved by both chambers.

An emerging compromise on annual defense policy legislation will endorse a $45 billion increase to President Joe Biden’s defense spending plans, according to four people familiar with the negotiations.

The deal would set the budget topline of the fiscal 2023 National Defense Authorization Act at $847 billion for national defense, and would go as high as $858 billion when including programs that fall outside of the jurisdiction of the Senate and House Armed Services committees. The level mirrors the increased budget approved by Senate Armed Services in June.

Update: Lawmakers Set to Propose Record $847B for Defense, $45B Over Biden’s Request (Truthout)

WNU Editor: If this budget increase is agreed to, it will be the largest-ever US defense budget, and I predict President Biden will sign it.

So why the massive increase?

You have to take into account inflation, but it also looks like the Russia - Ukraine war and the rise of China is spooking US lawmakers.

  1. This is NOT a fluke. This goes on with every military budget request. Why?
Both sides agree and accept and add to the budget to show the folks back home that they are working for them by bringing money gifts to the states that elected them. This in the ONE thing that always unites the Blue and the Red elected officials! Thus despite the so-called plans to cut corners and costs, ie medicare, social security, taxes, etc.
this budget always gets raised and passes with ease. In short: it was what Ike, ie Eisenhower, called the military industrial complex.

    1. you beat me to it. :)
So true...and I thank God that a man like Ike was there at the time to put it on record.

  2. I love the heart felt, sobbing concern trolling above.

Perhaps the cry baby could look at DoD spending as a percentage of Federal spending.

Perhaps we could discuss military spending as a levy like a tax levy passed by cities, counties and states everywhere. The levy is based on stated needs. What is the need? it is stated in the quadrennial Defense Review. DFR.

1:22 should get a job as a fluffer.

  4. ANON (FIRST ONE) IS NOT ARGUING THIS OR THAT BUT RATHER THE INCREASE FROM CONGRESS UPON AMOUNT REQUESTED BY PENTAGON.
ps 10% of national budget but then added to by Congress.
If what was said is wrong, show us. If not, why go on a meaningless rant?

  5. Wow--no Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex here, folks!
Seems like there might possibly be members of the house and senate who get 10%.

  6. As stated before, every dollar spent for defense is one dollar less to build a strong economy.

  7. China and Russia both increased the defense budgets. China has more ships than the US. So quite winging about the US Defense budget. It makes you look like a Chinese or Russian troll.
