Russia Unleashes ‘Massive’ Drone attack On Kyiv

Reuters: Russia Unleashes Largest Drone Attack on Ukrainian Capital Ahead of Kyiv Day

KYIV (Reuters) - Russia unleashed waves of air strikes on Kyiv overnight in what officials said appeared to be the largest drone attack on the city since the start of the war, as the Ukrainian capital prepared to celebrate the anniversary of its founding on Sunday.

Ukraine's Air Force said it downed 52 out of the 54 Russia-launched drones, calling it a record attack with the Iranian-made 'kamikaze' drones. It was not immediately clear how many of the drones were shot over Kyiv.

In what also appears to be the first deadly attack on Kyiv in May and the 14th assault this month, falling debris killed a 41-year-old man, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

The pre-dawn attacks came on the last Sunday of May when the capital celebrates Kyiv Day, the anniversary of its official founding 1,541 years ago. The day is typically marked by street fairs, live concerts and special museum exhibitions - plans for which have been made this year too, but on a smaller scale.

  1. That news report (both) sucked. No way of knowing who is telling the truth or how many drones attacked or how many were shot down.

  2. What's old is new again... In 1973 Israel exhausted Egypt's SAM supply with target drones. Russia has staged drone attacks on 14 days this month? This is what the "fight to shape the battlefield" looks like in the air. We don't know how many UAV were handled with EW, how many were handled by AAA, and how many had to be handled by SAM, so it's difficult to tell who's winning.

  3. It’s raining freedom over the Neo Nazi capital this PM. Good. This war should never have happened.

  4. Wow, it only took two drones to destroy 10’s of buildings. Good thing thy were able to stop 52 out of 54, or the entire capital would have Ben completely flattened.

  6. !0,000 drones allegedly shot down in a day? Kind of a stretch, in my book.
