Reuters: Ukraine aide proposes post-war demilitarised zone in Russia

KYIV (Reuters) - A Ukrainian presidential aide said on Monday a demilitarised zone of 100-120 km (62-75 miles) should be established inside Russia along the border with Ukraine as part of a post-war settlement.

The zone would be necessary to protect Ukrainian regions from Russian attacks, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on Twitter.

"The key theme of the post-war settlement should be the establishment of safeguards to avoid the recurrence of aggression in the future," he wrote.

He made his remarks after the governor of Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, called in televised comments for the annexation of Ukraine's Kharkiv region to stop Ukrainian cross-border shelling.

WNU Editor: Mykhailo Podolyak controls the entire information policy of the Office of the President and advises Zelensky directly. I remembered before the war he was pushing for Ukraine to launch an offensive to take back the Donbas, and when the Ukraine offensive started two weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine he was assuring everyone that Russia was not going to intervene. He completely misread Russia then and he is completely misreading them now.

  1. War News Updates tells the most amazing lies.

I looked at the demographics of Donbas. It is or was less than 50% ethnic Russian.

So what does liar WNU do? Bait and switch. He talks about how many Russian speakers there are. Well, about half of the Russian speakers are ethnic Ukrainians, but you would not know that reading WNU.

So for less than50% Russian in a land Russia had to go in and fuck over country.

"In the Ukrainian Census of 2001,[14] 49.6% of the inhabitants declared themselves as ethnically Ukrainians and 47% as Russians. 85.3% of the population spoke Russian as their native language, while 13.7% spoke Ukrainian, 0.2% Armenian and 0.1% Belarusian."

    1. Those Russian speaking Ukrainians would have been destined for the same re-education camps as the rest of them. Stop making a big deal of it. Russia is doing what any other country would have done in a similar situation and with similar military capabilities.

  2. Bill Clinton might be engaging in revisionist history. I do not like Bill Clinton, but I recognize that Mr. Clinton has people skills.

Clinton recalled a meeting with Putin a few years before 2014. Clinton said right there and then, he knew Putin was going to make a play for Ukraine.

If Clinton is not lying or mistaken than this has nothing to do with Maidan, 2014 or anything else. It has to do with Putin.

  3. "I feel a personal stake because I got them [Ukraine] to agree to give up their nuclear weapons," Mr Clinton said. "And none of them believe that Russia would have pulled this stunt if Ukraine still had their weapons."

    Nuke Russia NOW!

  4. He will get his DMZ. One thing is certain. It will not be on Russian territory.

As far as the Donbas. The Ukrainians treated them like dirt. Just like they did the Crimeans. If you were a citizen of Donbass , would you want to have Ukraine take back over?

I d not think so. If the Ukies ever do take back Donbas, it will be revenge time and ugly.

  6. “Putin told me in 2011, three years before he took Crimea, that he did not agree with the agreement I made with Boris Yeltsin, that they would respect Ukraine’s territory if they gave up their nuclear weapons,” Clinton said on Thursday

  8. Sure uncle Willy said that. If he said anything else Hillary would nag him for weeks.

But 2011 was before the USA pumped 5 billion into propaganda and did the color revolution in Ukie land..

Who could have ever imagined back then that these idiotic slavs would be killing each other now. Well, that is what you get when you listen to the poison song of the NEOCON Pied Piper.

"Stop making a big deal of it"

i.e. just believe me and move on

Most other nations are not klepto states like russia.

Personally, I believe that there will be one language on Earth. What is done to get there matters. If you want to rush it or force it by fiat, there will be blood. Human languages, computer languages; they are the same. It takes effort to learn them and people only have so much time and energy. If it were effortless everyone would be a computer programmer by now. Well, they aren't.

Putin should have gone for the soft sell. He should have used soft power. He should have invested in esperanto for Slavs. Mainly Russian with additions or smattering from other Slavic language/. But the little fucker is growing long in the tooth and can't wait or share credit with his successors. So he went the war route.

Putin is just as stupid as you are.

    1. Why couldn’t the west just leave Ukraine alone. Why was a coup d’état necessary? Why sabotage the talks that nearly ended this conflict last year? The West wanted this conflict and wasn’t going to stop until it got it. I’m starting to think this Ukraine conflict is just meant to bleed the Russians a bit of rockets and missiles before a larger NATO led strike on Kaliningrad and maybe elsewhere. This was all planed long before 2014. Now it’s time for you to go get another booster shot you good little 🐑

    2. Ps: I agree with the one language thing, but nobody is going to willingly just give up their culture and language. Look how all that turned out just in Canada alone with the French and indigenous peoples. Unfortunately a large scale war might be necessary to build a new foundation for our evolution.

  11. No one is willingly going to give up a language. It will happen by default. certain languages have critical mass. Others do not.

Critical mass could be due to numbers or "culture".

Russia sure has some numbers, but something is queer. They act like they have little dick disease.

Math professor said if you are going for you PhD in mathematics you need to learn a foreign language enough to read proofs in other languages. the languages to choose form for mathematics based on published research are English, French, Italian, Arabic, Mandarin and Russian.

Arabic and Mandarin were the up and coming languages.

So for Russian there are cultural reasons business, religion or academic reasons to learn it. It is not all numbers. Still there is this little dog syndrome among the Russians.

Waiting two hundred years on language is a long time to wait for a little guy like Putin.

Some Ukrainians might not like the Russians, but they don't like the Poles either. Many Ukrainians originally moved southeast to get away from Polish nobles. So there is that.

But the Kremlin screwed up the soft sell, soft power route.

    1. Thing is the Arabs and Chinese (Arabic and mandarin) are siding with the Russians. And the Indian language is a big one too. I work in Alberta and many of the engineers and operators here are indian. Many many businesses all over the world are owned by them as well. And guess what, the Indians are biased towards Russia. Most of there news outlets are pro Russian. The white west is dying a slow self inflicted death, English, French and German are on their way out. I had to manually capitalize the E in English, our technology doesn’t even recognize it anymore

  12. The Arabs are not siding with the russians permanently. They are siding with Russia for higher oil prices.

China got sweetheart deals for Russian oil.
