US-Led Coalition Building New Military Base in Northern Syria

New Arab: US-led coalition against Islamic State building new base in northern Syria

The US-led coalition against the Islamic State group will build a new base in the northern Syrian province of Raqqa, sources close to a coalition partner force have said.

The US-led global coalition against the Islamic State group in Syria has started to build a new military base in the northern province of Raqqa as the militant group continues to carry out attacks in the country.

The base will be in the Al-Suwaidiyeh area west of the city of Tabqa, a source close to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, a local partner of the coalition, told The New Arab’s Arabic-language sister site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Plans for the new base come as coalition forces began a few weeks ago to equip a base just south of the city of Raqqa, the source told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

  1. America commits war crime by building base in sovereign country to facilitate committing future war crimes in said sovereign country.

    ABWC. Always be War Criming.

  2. Assad has treated the Kurds decently considering the neighborhood. They do not challenge his power and he won't squash them like a bug. That is not a ringing endorsement of Syrian Democracy.

I see two reason for being in Syria. One is to protect the Kurds and the other is tit for tat. We owe that a-hole family and regime. If it wasn't for the Kurds, I would think we have bigger fish to fry. But we are there, so Assad and his supporters can suck on it.

    1. Russia is Ukraine to protect the Russian population from Zelensky, so the Ukes can suck on that as well.

  4. yea, they were not very nice. That is why I do not see the Donbass ever going back to the Ukraine. Probably not Crimea either. Too much bad blood on both sides.

  5. The only way liars like yourself or WNU can come up with more than 50% Russian speakers in Donbas is to lump the ethnic Ukrainian Russian speakers and the ethnic Russians, Russian speakers. funny how that is used to justify war. It is such a bad argument that Putin did not declare war. He mealy mouthed it and called it a special military operation. Total beta boy. Of a par with Beto O'Rourke

    1. More or less ridiculous than declaring war on “terror”, an ideology. And then using that as a premise to invade and occupy two sovereign countries.

  6. Hey the US used the same justification . Where did you think the R2P idea came from? No sireee bob, the Rusikies are not smart enough to make shit like that up.

  7. The War on Terror was coined by cowards who did not want to utter the words War on Islamic Terrorists.

Belated intervention in Rwanda was basically R2P but without the nifty moniker. the Libyan intervention was pushed by the Europeans, most strongly by the French and Italians. Obama was reluctant but after being badgered by a woman, Samnatha Powerful, and the heads of Italy and France he caved.

Normally, you would be on the side of protesters, who are being shot in the streets or being dragged off for torture. Normally. However, Gadaffi gave up his WMDs for promises from the Bush White House. Some of the people who wanted to replace Gaddaffi were no better than him. Just a fresh face, but just as evil. Many of the jihadis joining al Qaeda in Iraq were from Libya. Gaddaffi let them go not so much to hurt the US, but so that they would meet their maker and not bother him. He was hoping it would act as a steam relief valve. With Iraq quiet in 2011 until feckless Obama pulled out, the surviving Libya jihadis returned to Libya when the Arab spring protests broke out. Replacing Gaddaffi with the jihadist would not necessarily be better and would probably be worse. Obama and Samantha Powerful were fools.

What is worse is that Colin Powell espoused the pottery barn rule for Afghanistan and Iraq, but not with Libya. Was it because both Obama and Colin are or were Black? I think so.

A reason to not get involved was that the Us was already in Afghanistan and Iraq although Obama was getting out of Iraq through faithless negotiation of a SOFA.

  8. US wants to keep stealing oil from Syria.

  9. The Kurds ell the oil to the Syrian government. the Kurds and the Syrian government both get a cut of the proceeds. The Kurds use the oil sales to fund themselves.

    Try again troll.

  10. If the Syrian government and the Kurds are working hand in hand , then why is the US even in that country.
I thought the big deal was to protect the Kurds from the evil syrians?
