Former President Trump Rejected Pentagon Proposed Plan To Attack Iran

El Pais: Recording reveals that Trump took a secret plan to attack Iran from the White House

The recording is incriminating evidence in the investigation into classified documents kept by the former president in his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida

Federal prosecutors have obtained a recording of a meeting in the summer of 2021, in which former U.S. president Donald Trump acknowledges that he kept a classified Pentagon document about a possible attack on Iran, according to a report published Wednesday by CNN.

The recording is incriminating evidence against Trump, who has sometimes claimed that he declassified all the documents that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) found during the search of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach (Florida).

According to the CNN report, which cites multiple sources familiar with the investigation, the recording indicates that Trump was aware that he withheld material classified as confidential after leaving the White House.

Trump’s comments suggested that he would like to share the information in the confidential documents, but recognized that his post-presidency ability to declassify records was limited, according to the exclusive.

Update #2: Special counsel reportedly has 'important' tape of Trump discussing classified documents (The Week)

WNU Editor: As President he had broad powers to decide what to declassify and what not to declassify. But opponents of the former President will still try to use this case to derail his bid for the White House, and his supporters will see this as another attempt by his opponents using the Justice Department to shut him out.

But this ignores a bigger story, and that story is that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley wrote up a report detailing his recommendation and plan to attack Iran.

Thank God then President Trump rejected this insane idea. But the problem that I see is that General Milley is still Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and if he recommended attacking Iran, what the hell is he recommending to President Biden right now when it comes to Russia?

  1. Did Milley actually propose attacking Iran, or is this just an updated contingency plan? I'm certain that the US military has contingency plans for attacking anyone, including Canada, Mexico, the UK ... wherever, in case something goes really sour there.

  2. Good question... but the way things have been going in Ukraine... it wouldn't surprise me if he really did suggest an attack on Iran. Frankly... they don't seem very rational

  3. Nicolas Darkwater,
It looks and sounds like it was a proposed plan to attack, not a contingency plan.

    But we will never know.

This apparently was an NDI document that Trump was talking about, and unlike a document that is labelled top secret, no President has the legal authority to declassify it.

And that is why this story is important.

Because it was an NDI document (if the media is to believed), it has to be a real proposal to invade Iran using US forces. If it was labelled top secret, that would tell me that is was just a contingency plan.

  4. They are not rational. None of these countries have attacked the US .
Just like Syria. And yet the BLOB just wants to destroy them.

  5. As i understand, no one in the media has heard the audio. This is a prosecutorial leak. so many of these leaks have proven false. I'll just have to wait to know what to think about this. The leaks are made many times in anticipation of some bad news coming out about Biden/Dems ect.

  7. Under Dem presidenrts, an agreement with Iran on nukes was sought. Under Trump this idea was junked and possible attack plans were made...contingency plans are always made. That does NOT mean that Trump would not go along with a plan to attack Iran. Trump was no longer president and thus, say legal folks, he was in no position to declassify this stuff.
What a general suggests is not the same thing as what is or will be done.Gen MacArthur wanted to attack mainland China during early days of the Korean War.

  8. Gen Milley?

The document Trump references on tape was created before Milley was named as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CNN was told, and Milley was later interviewed by investigators. Sources have been unable to specify if Trump had the document in question with him as he discussed it in the meeting in 2021 or was simply referencing it.

The recording, first reported by CNN, is now in the hands of special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the Justice Department investigation into Trump. Smith has focused in recent months on the meeting as part of the yearlong criminal investigation into the former president’s handling of national security secrets.

The audio of Trump acknowledging he had a classified document undercuts Trump’s repeated claims that he declassified everything he took from the White House when he left office.
