Has President Biden's Remark That Chinese President Xi Is A Dictator Harmed U.S. - China Relations?

Reuters: Biden addresses Xi 'dictator' remark, says US-China relations unharmed WASHINGTON

(Reuters) - President Joe Biden said on Thursday he did not think his comment referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a dictator had undermined or complicated the U.S. relationship with China, while declining to walk back the sentiment.

“The idea of my choosing and avoiding saying what I think is the facts with regard to the relationship with ... China is, is just not something I am going to change very much,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

He said he expected to be meeting with Xi in the near term and said Secretary of State Antony Blinken had had a great trip to China recently.

WNU Editor: One has to look at the context to understand why we are here today.

It all started when the US insisted that US Secretary of State Blinken should meet Chinese officials in Beijing to repair US - China ties after the Chinese 'spy balloon' incident and to lay the groundwork for a Biden - Xi summit.

The Chinese agreed to meet Secretary Blinkem, but they gave him an incredibly rough time during his stay. When I read the Chinese statements on their meetings with the US Secretary, it is nothing but criticism, condemnation of US actions, and disrespect.

I think when President Biden learned about what had happened to his U.S. Secretary in China after he was briefed, Biden does what Biden always does. He reacted angrily and he did so publicly.

Not surprising, the Chinese have reacted .... China reportedly rebukes US ambassador after Biden called Xi a ‘dictator’ (The Guardian).

The US president is now playing down the impact of his comments, saying ‘I don’t think it’s had any real consequence’. But it does.

Diplomacy and international relations are built on mutual interests, people skills, relationships, respect, and trust. The US President has put the final nail in that coffin when it comes to China. The US President's position on China is now very clear, and from President Xi's point of view he is not going to work with a US President that he feels he cannot trust or respect.

Behind closed doors I am willing to bet that US diplomats, including the US Secretary of State, are furious with the President. After going through all of that work and trouble of trying to repair US - China ties, the US President demolished it with 24 hour. In a world where tensions are incredibly high and there is now a de-facto war between NATO and Russia using Ukraine as the proxy, these personal remarks being made public are not helpful at all.

    Trump understood those concepts, right?

And the infamous, "Rocket Man" comment. “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.”

The point I am making with these quotes?

If a liberal politician says these things, WNU will throw shade and remark how such talk is not becoming of a politician in the highest office.

If a republican like Trump says these things, WNU will shower them with compliments how this is robust foreign policy and being strong against your geo-political rivals is needed.

It's an interesting faux dynamic that has been going on this blog since its inception.

    Absolute hilarity.

*Before anyone puts me into a political spectrum based on this comment, I am a Republican. But I am not Russian nor do I push an agenda, unlike this blog.

  2. Don t care who you are, but your context is wrong.

Truopy could make fun of NK all he wants because they are small and far away with VERY limited capability.

China, a whole different matter. Big, powerful and has a long reach,

Now we and china are at crisis point. The meeting in anchorage 2 years ago failed miserably. Our political establishment has only poured salt on a wound aka Pelosi going to Taiwan.

Now DoS goes over there and START (only start) the patch-up process and what happens? Mr Dementia patient has a Corn pop moment.

This administration is one big Blob clown show.

BTW how are things in Hanover and you still have not answered the 5 questions.

  3. The big guy is a perfect representative for the left these days. Out of touch with reality. And completely demented. He really does represent a large minority of whack job Americans. A big fail is coming for the west, maybe Macron sees this and doesn’t want to go to the BRICS as a spy.

  4. Stop entertaining Child Pred Fred Lapaides/Chicken roost in March anon. He is 80 or so and will be dead shortly. He sucks you in, cheery picks and omits, engages in full partisan hackery with fallacious whataboutism and false equivalency at the bare minimum, and then asks and waits for you to write out a detailed and evidence based response, and then runs away like a little girl to hyper link other posts with vox and CNN articles, and then licks the marxist democrat boot like the good boi he has always been. His ever dwindling, empty and unfulfilled life is now relegated to trolling a niche blog in a sad mental illness loop where his soul resides in the democrat party of 1968-1981, as his corpse rots now for 20+ years online behind his computer. No such thing as exogenous nutrients in this anthropods little pathetic life. He not a full person anymore, so do not accord him as such. His dying life blood is to draw upon, and suck without a cause. A tragedy; manifestly.

    Good stuff.

Fred Lapides voted for Biden. It is Fred's parting gift to us.

And Fred thinks Trump is the problem.

12:20 is not Fred BTW. 12:20 writes too well to be Fred.

I think 12:20 is troll trying to stir shit up, which is unnecessary because emotions run high anyway.

Think of it as cops walking in on a domestic disturbance call. Often people are beating the Hell out of each other, but when the cops show up, they band together to beat on the cops before resuming their spat.

The Russian trolls and their organization should figure out that, if they do not succeed in dividing by a significant extent, what will happen is that they will merely draw a bullseye on themselves. But they are tooo cocky to take heed and besides they do not want to become mobiks with barrier troops behind them.
