The Guardian: Russia investigates Wagner chief for ‘armed mutiny’ after call for attack on military
FSB opens criminal case after Yevgeny Prigozhin accuses Russia’s military of rocket attack and says ‘evil’ leadership must be stopped
Russia’s FSB security service has opened a criminal case for armed mutiny against Wagner’s Yevgeny Prigozhin after the mercenary chief accused the Russian military of targeting his forces and vowed to “destroy” his rivals.
In an extraordinary series of audio clips released late on Friday, Prigozhin claimed that a Russian rocket attack had killed scores of his fighters, vowing to take “revenge” and “stop the evil brought by the military leadership of the country”.
“Those who destroyed today our guys, who destroyed tens, tens of thousands of lives of Russian soldiers will be punished. I’m asking: no one resist,” Prigozhin said.

WNU Editor: Yevgeny Prigozhin is clearly frustrated with the state of the war. He wants to unleash the full strength of the Russian military on Ukraine instead of the piece-meal approach that the Kremlin is using. He is not sympathetic with the cautious nature that the Russian ministry of Defense is following, and he wants a change in the Russian military leadership. But his rhetoric has gone too far, and there will be consequences.
As to the big question .... will the Wagner chief's comments impact the war? My answer is it will not.
Yevgeny Prigozhin is not a military commander, as such his calls for the military to support him will be mostly ignored. But politically he has caused a stir, and I predict it will be very hard for him to recover.

Still can’t believe this is happening. But he seen the flaws first hand, can’t entirely wright him off
ReplyDeleteIt's surreal. Woke up to this and was like--"What a plot-twist _this_ is."
DeleteNormally I would agree that Prigozhin will lose. But that he is not already dead is telling. I am hearing unverified reports that Rostov on Don has fallen without a fight, and that military units are defecting to him. Is it true Putin has not addressed the nation in alive address yet? There is something strange going on.
ReplyDeleteChris
I cannot wright him off either.
ReplyDeleteNeat Trick that, wrighting someone off.
Unverified reports are that Wagner PMC is now in Voronezh and that more Russian military units have joined the revolt. Voronezh is about half way to Moscow to where Wagner started.
ReplyDeleteWagner only has around 20k troops. They cannot be doing this by themselves. This is increasingly looking like the colonel's revolt in Egypt. Senior political leaders in Moscow are probably in league with Prigozhin and agreed to the coup. I think there is now a 50/50 chance that the senior Russian military leadership will be liquidated and Putin killed and hanging upside down from a lamp post.
Prigozhin can still very well lose, but it increasingly looks like this is a well planned coup with lots of support. If Putin cannot turn this around in the next 24 hours, he may very well lose power and his life.
