‘How many lives is one sentence at the Vilnius summit worth?’ Ukraine president asks in Wall Street Journal interview.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy doubled down on Kyiv’s push to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ahead of NATO’s next summit in Vilnius this summer.

“If we are not acknowledged and given a signal in Vilnius, I believe there is no point for Ukraine to be at this summit,” the Ukrainian president told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published Saturday.

“We understand that we will not be in NATO or in any powerful security alliance during this war. But tell me, how many [Ukrainian] lives is one sentence at the Vilnius summit worth?” Zelenskyy said, adding he “honestly [did] not know” if he would receive such a signal.

  1. I don't blame him for saying this. Nor do I blame NATO for keeping its distance for now. It's a bloody shame all around. Of course, Ukraine having such a long history of government corruption doesn't help matters either.

  2. Joe Biden has mismanaged everything about this war. First he didn’t bother to deter Putin. While Putin was sending 100,000 troops in 2021 to Ukraines border, Biden didn’t arm and train Ukrainians on the gear he eventually gave them. That might have deterred Putin before the invasion. His sanctions policy is a total flop.
Ineffective and not a war winner.

  4. Zelensky is an impatient little fuck, isn't he? He needn't worry, the West will cut their own throats and invite the fascists into NATO, where it will fit right in with the rest.

  6. When Russia was building up a force around Ukraine and was threatening to attack if certain conditions weren't met, Biden, Nuland or whoever is actually calling these shots made no attempt to meet with the Russians and get into negotiations. Instead they continued with their blustering about Putin and Russia bad. We, the U.S. own this conflict. at some point the cost may be much higher than a few hundred billion dollars.
