BBC: North Korea fires intercontinental ballistic missile after threatening US
North Korea has fired a suspected intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Japanese and South Korean officials report.
The long-range missile flew for more than an hour before landing short of Japanese waters on Wednesday morning.
Pyongyang's launch comes after it threatened retaliation against what it said were recent US spy plane incursions over its territory.
Earlier this week it threatened to shoot down such planes.

ReplyDeleteTake them out Putin
ReplyDeleteFlew for more than an hour at ballistic speeds and landed "near Japan". That means its trajectory was vertical and it shot to an altitude higher than the ISS. I think this means that they now have a missile that can reach anywhere in the US.

My personal nightmare is a N Korean nuke detonated in the atmosphere above Ohioin the central US, which would wipe out the power grid of the USA completely and practically put the US back into the stone age. Likely 100 million would die over a year or two. Why the USA did not take out the N Korea nuclear weapons program in its infancy shows the cowardice and impotence of the US leadership.
ReplyDeleteNorth Korea's Kim Jong-un sends terrifying nuclear bomb warning to the world
ReplyDeleteNorth Korean leader Kim Jong-un issued a chilling threat to the West as he claimed the security of the Korean peninsula is being threatened.
The president of the hermit country vowed to continue with the testing of weapons - including nuclear arms - in response to the recent decision by the US to enhance its security commitment to South Korea.
According to North Korean state media, Mr Kim said: "The present unstable situation in which the security environment on the Korean peninsula is being seriously threatened by the hostile forces every moment.
"(That) requires more intense efforts to implement the line of bolstering nuclear war deterrent."
Mr Kim also pledged to undertake a "series of stronger military offensive" until the US and South Korea "admit their shameful defeat of their useless hostile policy toward (North Korea) in despair and give up their policy".
