Politico: Russian defense minister says Wagner Group rebellion failed because of Russian troops’ loyalty

“These plans failed primarily because the personnel of the Armed Forces showed loyalty to their oath and military duty,” Sergei Shoigu said.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Monday the Wagner Group’s attempted rebellion failed because Russia’s army “showed loyalty to their oath and military duty,” marking the first time he has spoken out about the short-lived mutiny.

“These plans failed primarily because the personnel of the Armed Forces showed loyalty to their oath and military duty,” Shoigu said in public remarks. “The provocation did not affect the actions of the groupings of troops.” Russia responded to the rebellion by tightening security measures in Moscow.

WNU Editor: There is some speculation that some senior Russian military officers may have gone rogue. But overall the Russian army stayed 100% loyal to the chain of command and its commander in chief President Putin.

  3. Very few units seemed to join the mutiny. But an awful lot of military units didn't think they should suppress it either. That Wagner did not face any real resistance in seizing Rostov, which was the home of the actual military HQ running the actual war in Ukraine. Nor was its military convoy to Moscow stopped. Simply put, Wagner should never have been able to make it to Rostov if the military had actually been truly loyal.

The reason the mutiny failed seems to be that Prigozhin believed he could seize both Gersimov and Shoigu in Rostov, and that didn't happen. He might have also believed that certain units of the Russian military were going to join him and present a fait accomplit, which obviously did not happen.

The idea that this was some subtle plan to flush out the rats doesn't hold water. Despite the mutiny's failure, it made Putin look seriously weak. The government is clearly furious at the mutiny. Putin is now admitting that he's being lying all along about Wagner not being dependent on the Russian government. So that deniability is gone. And Prigozhin has lost a lot more than just control of Wagner troops in Ukraine to the Russian MoD. His assets are being seized and he is being sent into exile. In contrast, if he had done nothing, he'd have kept his business empire outside Wagner and been able to become a prominent Russian milblogger like Girkin. These are huge prices for both Putin and Prigozhin to pay.

  4. More twisted analysis from our DC blob information operations team.

I guess since Putin's cities are not burning like macron's or Joe's , then Putin is weak.

no, wrong again, cris and fellow GS-4s. go back to your cubicle and cry.

Putin is strong. No national uprisings, no defections,, no mutinous armed forces units, no provincial uprisings, no calls for him to resign. NADA

only the propaganda from blinken and the rest of the western mob bleating like sheep... Putin is weeeeeeeeaaaaak.

Like your failed offensive . You guys at Hanover, Nellis and Bragg are zero for zero.
