The Biden administration expects American-made F-16 fighter jets will arrive in Ukraine near the end of this year, a top spokesperson said, signaling that U.S. officials are feeling a new sense of urgency to deliver the warplanes as quickly as possible.
“Now look, the F-16s will get there probably towards the end of the year,” John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, said on Fox News on Thursday
“But it’s not our assessment that the F-16s alone would be enough to turn the tide here.”

US leadership is non existent. All of this should have been sent in the beginning or not at all. The drip and drab approach is delaying the inevitable, which is a Russian victory and no more Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteI see this from a 'moral warfare theory' perspective. These actions (NATO tanks are coming, F-16 fighter-bombers are coming) are designed to improve Western Ukrainian morale.
ReplyDeleteIf the USA was serious, then things would be handled differently. For example, when the USA went from a 20 division army to a 10 division army after the Cold War ended, much of the equipment was mothballed -- there are 3,000 M1 tanks sitting in the desert along with 20,000+ other vehicles from those days:

It would be the simplest thing in the world for the USA to refurbish 30 tanks a month and send them to Ukraine. Instead, the USA will send 30 tanks this year. Makes you think, doesn't it?
I believe there is military and political value that the USA gets from this war even if Ukraine looses or the war is frozen, so Ukrainian victory is a "stretch goal". Small batches of military equipment is tested, intelligence systems are perfected, and "large language models" are built with which to train AI for high intensity wars of the future.
