Why Is There A Cemetery Monument In Canada Honoring A German Nazi Waffen SS Unit Accused Of Committing Genocide?

* Canada's parliament accidentally applauded a 98-year-old Nazi veteran on Friday.
* The gaffe rekindled calls for a monument honoring his unit to be removed from a Canadian cemetery.
* Yaroslav Hunka served in the 14th Waffen SS Division, a voluntary unit of mostly Ukrainians.

The Canadian parliament's standing ovation for a Ukrainian war veteran who turned out to be a former fighter for Nazi Germany has reignited calls to take down a monument honoring his unit.

Yaroslav Hunka, 98, who served in the voluntary 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen SS, was applauded as a war hero by Canadian leaders on Friday without them realizing he actually fought in a Nazi unit.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has since apologized for the gaffe, calling it "deeply embarrassing."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was visiting Canada's parliament at the time of the standing ovation.

WNU Editor: Living in Canada I can tell you this story is just the tip of the iceberg. Canada opened the door to thousands of Nazi veterans like Yaroslav Hunka after the Second World War war, and they have lived extremely well in Canada. And over the years through social events and friends I have met some of these former Ukrainian Nazis, and you can take this to the bank ..... they have certainly not abandoned their ideology nor what they did during the war. In fact, because of the war, they are now crawling out of the woodwork (like Yaroslav Hunka) for what they did during the Second World War.

So what is next?

It has now been a week since the Canadian Parliament gave a rousing standing ovation for this "former" Waffen SS soldier, and the impact is still being felt. The Canadian media and Canada's political class are trying their best to bury this story, and the media "gymnastics" on what they are trying to do is quite a sight to see.

The best one are questions from reporters and the pundit class on if (and when) Prime Minister Trudeau is going to call/talk to Ukraine President Zelensky to apologize for this event. The standard response has been that Canada has already apologized through "diplomatic" channels. But I know the real reason why this issue is not going to be brought up directly with the Ukrainian President. The fact is that Zelensky and his staff all knew who and what Yaroslav Hunka and his comrades did during the Second World War, and for many of them they view him as a hero. I am even now reading some pro-Ukrainian blogs who want to invite Yaroslav Hunka to Ukraine to receive recognition for what he did during the Second World War. Canadians may be completely ignorant on World War 2 history, but everyone is Ukraine is not.

On a personal note. My father fought against Germany in the Second World War for the Soviet Army. Being Russian - Ukranian he particularly hated pro-German Ukrainian units like the the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS - also known as the Galicia Division - that was formed in 1943. In his home town of Bila Tserkva a third of the population of 100,000 was Jewish, and they were all exterminated by units like the Galacia Division when they went through the city (Wikipedia link here). And then there is the involvement of these pro-Nazi Ukrainian units in Germany's extermination camps. But that is another story for another time. My blood pressure is high enough as it is with what I have seen and heard this past week.

  1. Somewhere in Russia there is a military cemetery where those who partook in the Katyn Massacre are buried and honored.

Those who died at Katyn included soldiers
(an admiral, two generals, 24 colonels, 79 lieutenant colonels, 258 majors, 654 captains, 17 naval captains, 85 privates, 3,420 non-commissioned officers, and seven chaplains)

    200 pilots

government representatives and royalty (a prince, 43 officials)

    and civilians

    three landowners
    131 refugees
    20 university professors
    300 physicians
several hundred lawyers, engineers, and teachers

more than 100 writers and journalists).

In all, the NKVD executed almost half the Polish officer corps

Question? Has WNU gone to their grace sites and honored them or laid flowers there?

  5. The democrat party here in the USA was the Confederacy and slave holders that the Republicans fought against and defeated during the American civil war. The democrat party is also the same party who subsequently created the KKK and allied with actual neo nazis up until recently, when these politically disjunctive rejects starting voting republican because even the ethno masochistic bigoted insanity wild west plantation of the modern democrat party was too much for them.

Joe Biden is one of the few politicians still around from that era who is on the record voting against integration, civil rights, hob nobbing with segregationists, Nazi's, KKK leaders etc and this has been a long known fact. Youll get octogenarian partisan bastards on here with pedophilloic tendencies like Fred Lapaides and useful idiot lapdog anons who will snail trail from his carpeted bathroom and ask for "Data/proof/vox hyperlinks" etc to prove this immutable fact, but then he/they/them runs away the moment you start.

The upper echelons of the democrat party plantation are all dying off now, and the degenerate self hating white liberal youth and their useful idiot plantation Uncle Tom minority field hands are now running that island of unwanted toys. Canada is America's fancy little top hat, culturally and politically owned by the American left. All they are doing here is saying the quiet part out loud with this scandal, and the whole "we traded political parties" bullshit doesnt work there in this case.

So where are those individuals and units that took part and where are they buried.

Have you conveniently lost the records?

Yes Stalin is being rehabilitated and thus Stalin is being honored by scum suckers.

    1. Not in the Canadian parliament he isn’t. We cannot control what other countries do if they are not our allies or financial dependents. Besides, how does it logically follow suit that because the other side is supposedly lionizing one of the villains of the 20th century, that we should do likewise?

Just a terrible take from start to finish friend.

    5 Latvia

  8. Matthew: stop distorting history!
while it is true that the American South was Democratic for many years, that is because the early GOP under Lincoln led the North against the South to end slavery. It was Dem LBJ that integrated the South. It was Truman that integrated the military. It is the GOP that gerrymanders to prevent non whites from voting in the south and elsewhere. Any one can play games with history if he or she picks and chooses. That is what you try to do here. But those who know better see through your game.

Explain why Tim Scott is senator from Carolina and is Republican. I expect Tim Scott to retire one day. No shit sherlock you say. I expect that a quite of few of his staff are African American. Some of them will run for office and win. For those of you who are retards, I mean Democrat true believers and Russians, it means that we will have more and more African Americans voting republican and African American Republican leaders. Meanwhile the Democrats will go back to racism playbook.

More and more African American and Hispanics are voting Republican.

"It was Dem LBJ that integrated the South" Proof?

At some point the Republican party will have to have a civil war fought in the primaries to kickout the RINOS.

  12. The remaining German soldiers who fought in WW2 are all in their 90's and have just a few more years to live, if that. I hope the Left will allow them to live their remaining years in peace, but I doubt they will.

  13. "They were all exterminated by units like the Galacia Division when they went through the city"

    Like the Galicia

But it was not actually the Galicia division. Because these divisions were formed after the Massacre.

So he cannot prove it was this division or any other division, but he will smear them anyway.

The the usual process were locals, police battalions, and some Germans would carry out these extermination. These exterminations have bene frequent in Russia for centuries and there is a name for them. Progroms. This "last" progrom was probably the worst given what percentage were killed. I would say it was the worst, but it might not be. Were accurate record kept for the last 3 to 5 centuries on the pogroms.

What is a Russian - Ukranian. A ethnic Russian living in Ukraine during the Russian Empire. I would think an relatively well off ethnic Russian would view the Holodomor differently than ethnic Ukrainians.

Was he the product of ethnic Ukrainians and ethnic Russians or not a drop. Going to school and at that time that definitely shows means.

Zelensky is Jewish by parentage, but not by practice. I think Zelensky would take a dim view of an organization that did not fight the Russians but ran around exterminating Jews.

Did Zelensky praise the police Battalions or a unit formed in 1943 to fight the Russians and did fight the russians?

  14. "I hope the Left will allow them to live their remaining years in peace, but I doubt they will."

Why would the Left protest Germans soldiers who did not kill Jews? Why would the left protest Germans soldiers who killed Jews? The Democrat party is a party of antisemitism and always has been since the Civil War and is currently anti-Semitic. You might say there is a golden age between WW2 and 2010 when the Democrat party was not openly anti-Semitic.

Could New York City Lose Its Last Remaining Jewish Congressman?

The heyday of Jewish congress people is at an end. It does not mesh well with the Democrat Party's identity politics and the vociferous anti-Semitism of many Democrat officials.

:Does Jewish representation still matter in New York City? Political insiders have their doubts.

Jewish representation in the New York delegation to the House of Representatives is still a fraction of what it was even two decades ago" NY Jewish Week

When Schumer retire or croaks in office, which seems to be a trend, there might be one Jewish national level politician elected from NY. Maybe.

You can gaslight all you like, play your partisan useful idiot games, and continue your democrat conspiracy theories about "Republican bigots raycisms(TM) Gerrymandering ReEeeEeEEEE!!!!". History already happened, and you leftist scum can only revise it in books, media and the classroom for now. I dont have to play your game and accept all of your mindlessly adopted priors with the same debilitatingly abhorrent bias of omission and stunted troglodyte patterns of "reasoning". Your party went from a physical plantation to a full social marxist ideological one, hence why all the minorities educated in your "field" are worse off year over year for decades now, and every major city you fucktards run have far worse social and income stratification, almost no wage mobility (hence minimum wage hotdog on the stick politics), much higher crime, open actual racism, and lack of real opportunity than any republican run area of equivalent size. Bunch of champaign socialists clinging their glasses while tweeting for "cHaaAnnNggGeeEee". Loser.

  16. Skods

    You are twisting history again.

Those were not the Russians Th Russians were not a country until about 1990.

it was the SOVIET UNION. Can you say SOVIET UNION?

To say the russians are responsible fr the crimes of the Soviets is hog wash.. Is the current Iraq regime responsible for the crimes of Saddam? NO.

Is the current government in Chile responsible for the mistakes of Pinochet? Of course not.

You logic sucks. What you are trying to do is make putin and the Russians look bad by saying they were the Soviets. Bullcrap..

And where are you getting this idea that Putin is re-habilitating Stalin?

That is trash , you have no evidence the the current Russian government is turning back to Stalinism or re-habilitating him.

Though there are non government movements that adore the guy. But every society has its nut cases. Seen ANTIFA lately? They are rehabilitating John Brown,

It was not until the 28th Politburo that every republic had a representative at the Politburo. The Politburo never tried to fix the ethnic imbalance within the Politburo. Instead, the Soviet Union at the central level was mostly ruled by Russians.

    The 28th Politburo 1990/1991 << so comical

  18. If some unit is SS, but not Waffen SS, I assume they committed a crime.

If they are Waffen SS, I generally do not consider they committed crimes.

Speaking of crimes those of the allies (US and Russia were undercounted and underprosecuted.

Someone harping in SS is someone trying to score easy points and a superficial person.

    Stalin ...Georgian

    Khrushchev Ukrainian Russian
    Brezhnev Ukrainian.

so for most of the time , the Soviets were ruled by non Russians

The Russians were not in charge.

  20. The foundations of the Rusich group were laid in 2009, when a military training base was founded by Alexey Milchakov, a neo-Nazi from Saint Petersburg.[4][8] He had the nickname "Fritz"

    Is WNU actually Alexey Milchakov?

Is WNU partial to the name Fritz?

  23. I had said: LBJ integrated the South. Some Anon said that was not so and I should show when and how:

On June 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, which was the most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction. The Act prohibited discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, in public places, provided for the integration of schools and other public facilities, and made employment discrimination illegal.

Congress expanded the act in subsequent years, passing additional legislation in order to move toward more equality for African-Americans, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

  24. Its amazing you still have partisan narrative dwellers and ideological primitives arguing for LBJ by way of single factor analysis, as though that separates the party platform and its history from itself. Joe Biden is still a well documented segregationist and open racist, who hob nobbed with the KKK and Neo Nazis until it wasnt cool anymore. Was he born in the wrong time period and precariously voted with the wrong political party along supposed party lines?? Or are you just that fucking dense as an unemployable comment section lingerer? Dont bother answering, you boot licking leftist apologist.
