Is U.S. Aid To Ukraine Rebuilding America's Industrial Base?

The Federalist: No Mitch McConnell, Ukraine Aid Is Not ‘Rebuilding Our Industrial Base’

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to reassure Ukrainian aid skeptics that billions in foreign assistance is being spent on American manufacturers to build weapons at home.

“If you look at the Ukraine assistance,” McConnell said on CBS, “a significant portion of what’s being spent in the United States and 38 different states, replacing the weapons that we send to Ukraine with more modern weapons, so we’re rebuilding our industrial base.”

But a closer examination of the aid for Ukraine reveals an overwhelming majority of taxpayer dollars are going overseas. Just a fraction of the $113 billion spent has gone to “rebuilding our industrial base.”

WNU Editor: Defense spending always boosts the economy, but after the stimulus it is always followed by inflation and economic contraction. And as for rebuilding America's industrial base. I doubt it.

  1. McConnell is a liar. This is a pathetic excuse to propagate war and bolster a dying empire.

Here is what a true leader once said..

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.

Also basic Econ. 101. Military items are non value added to an economy. Example a tank or grenade produces nothing. It is a non value added item to a larger economy.

But use the same efforts to build bull dozers. The bulldozers go on to build factories, homes and office buildings.

countries who spend a lot of money sustaining an empire usually go broke....see the future?

  2. "We're rebuilding our industrial base. The Ukrainians are destroying the army of one of our biggest rivals. I have a hard time finding anything wrong with that."

    1) Rival does not equate with enemy. It often does, but it is not synonymous, otherwise why have two words? So it is okay to destroy them merely because they are rival? So why should kids form one high school get arrested if they drive by another high school and spray it with lead? Which leads to my next point.

    2) The Turtle is not the deepest or greatest thinker, but he thought it safe to come out of his shell and look relevant or something ...

    3) "The Ukrainians are destroying the army of one of our biggest rivals." Why did McConnell ever get remarried? For power (Power couple)? For Money (She brought a lot of it)? For sex? He got remarried at 51. So maybe there was some sex 10 years ago or more. Maybe.

I ask, because I wonder what that mother fracker does with all his time? Is it and endless series of meetings, bloviating and cocktail circuits?

Ukraine is giving the Russians Hell and the Russians are giving Hell right back at them. Ukraine is not assured of winning so what is that stupid oaf happy about?

Glide bombs are big problem. they screw up resupply of Robotyne, Bakhmut(?) and Avdiivka. they do not always hit supply vehicles, but they do often enough to make you wonder if the intermittent supply will cause severe enough problems to cause a loss at Avdiivka.

The air war is still one sided or if not that then the Russian have the edge and the Tuttle is happy. It could not get much worse than if we picked out a senator to replace McConnell from a phone book. It could actually get much better.

"And as for rebuilding America's industrial base. I doubt it."
We know, who failed shop class.

  3. 5:15 addendum.

Has McConnell wargamed this out? Double blind game. Cardboard counter and hex grid or computers whatever. I think paper would be better for a 1st pass. It would make for an if not interesting weekend by their lights, then at least different one and and informative one.

Or they can skip the wargaming table top or otherwise and just let Austin blow smoke up their asses. I think they like the smoke better. Less effort on their part and they like seeing senior officers curry favor with them. Morons!

You could replace McConnell and his ilk with ROTC sophomores and come out with a better out come 99 times out of a hundred or better.

  5. what a stooge, rebuilding an industrial base takes decades, almost as long as it originally took to build it. rebuilding involves not just slapping together a few buildings. machines that make the products need to be rebuilt..in fact, machines that make the machines that make the products need to be rebuilt, supporting infrastructure needs to be rebuilt, and don't forget the skilled labor that will be required not only to run the machines but repair them. where will the repair parts come from? where will the raw materials come from? how will we get them from point a to point b? once a manufacturing base has been essentially destroyed it is a monumental task to rebuild it ! oh yea and what about all the environmental laws that will need to be waived and all the red tape involved in just that? what about the additional energy needs all this will require in our new 'green' age?

  8. above is right: that is why so many from other nations want to live here.
making tanks does not add to the economy? just creates jobs and pay taxes and that contributes to the economy.
