WASHINGTON (Reuters) - About 900 more U.S. troops have arrived in the Middle East or are heading there to bolster air defenses for U.S. personnel amid a surge in attacks by Iran-affiliated groups, the Pentagon said on Thursday.

As tensions soar over the Israel-Hamas war, U.S. and coalition troops have been attacked at least 12 times in Iraq and four times in Syria in the last week, Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told reporters.

A total of 21 U.S. forces have suffered minor injuries, the vast majority of them traumatic brain injuries.

WNU Editor: One source that I trust is saying that two more US aircraft carrier strike groups are going to be deployed to the Middle East in the coming days. This will make a total of 4 US aircraft carrier strike groups being deployed to the Middle East. If true, this is not a deployment to deter other actors to get involved in the Israel - Hamas war, this is a deployment to strike a major target.

  1. I am skeptical. The USA only has 11 carriers and usually half are in maintenance. The deployment of bombers to Diego Garcia is a sure sign of intent.

  2. I have no doubt we will soon find out if Iran has any old black market Soviet nukes and how many. Israel just might be a thing of the past soon enough, Iran as well. The west failed to take out Assad with ISIS, so will try to finish the job this time. We deserve what’s coming for us.

  3. The 101st is already in Jordon. Now the 82nd is going in.

2 more Aircraft carriers? that is over kill.

Why is the status of the 1st Cav and 3rd ID and the Cav regiments? When the heavies move, that means the US has committed to war.

  4. "Carriers" could mean deployment of LHA/LHD's - of which we have 9. Amphibious ships carrying AV-8B Harrier jets, F-35B's, V-22 Ospreys, AH-1 Cobras and lots of other heavy vertical lift. Most have well decks with LCAC's and armor.

(and 2200 Marines on each one)

  5. US military carried out airstrikes on Iranian proxy forces in Syria moments ago in response to recent attacks on U.S. bases since Oct 17: sources tell Fox News.
