Some European Union Foreign Ministers Are Meeting In Kyiv To Discuss The War

SCMP/AP: Ukraine war: Zelenksy say victory ‘depends on cooperation’ from allies during EU meeting in Kyiv as signs of strain show

* Zelensky said that Ukraine is capable of winning this confrontation, but needs the cooperation of its allies

* Ukraine wants to be a member of the EU, and EU officials encouraged that course even though it could take years amid a war of attrition with no end in sight

Some of Europe’s top diplomats gathered on Monday in Kyiv in a display of support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion as signs emerge of political strain in Europe and the United States over the 19-month-old war.

European Union foreign ministers converged on the Ukrainian capital for an unannounced informal meeting that officials said would review the bloc’s support for Ukraine and discuss Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposed peace formula.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the foreign ministers’ first joint meeting outside EU borders signalled that the 27-nation bloc’s support is “unwavering,” and underscored the EU’s commitment to Ukraine.

WNU Editor: Support for the war in the West is declining. Ukraine's counteroffensive has not achieved any of its strategic goals, and in the process they lost tens of thousands of soldiers and thousands of pieces of equipment. And there are now growing fears that if Europe experiences a cold winter, the energy shock to the EU from even hogher energy prices will completely undermine public support for the war.

As a result of these developments numerous EU and NATO meetings on the war have been slated for this week. Today's gathering of EU foreign ministers in Kyiv is the start of this process .... Ukraine confident of broad support as EU ministers convene in Kyiv (Reuters). NATO leaders and top generals are to meet later in the week.

What does this all mean?

I think there is a growing realization in the West that Ukraine is lacking the means and resources to counter the Russian army, and that  anew strategy and commitment is necessary. I know in Ukraine many have to come to that conclusion in the past month .... NATO-trained Ukrainian recruits admit they're being overpowered by Russia's battle-hardened troops in the northern sector, Kyiv Independent reports (Business Insider).

I swear to god. This is fucking nonsense.

So Ukraine should not have cluster munitions, but russia which has been using them form the start can. Not onlyusing them, but using them on civilians.

  6. A group of Russian servicemen recorded this video before being sent by Putin into a meat assault in Klischiivka, Bakhmut direction.

The men, counting 10 members plus 5 in support, were told to occupy a residential area in Klischiivka, where Ukrainian superiority was tenfold, in addition to firepower from Leopard tanks.

They added that in Klischiivka, Russians already lost 1000-1200 soldiers senselessly.

  12. Once again, the snippets of doom that add up to a drivel of inconsequential occurrences, while significant gains and loses are ignored.

The series above are not really significant. Do any of them determine a change in the prevailing trend?

    No.

    What is the prevailing trend?

Ukrainian massive losses and not enough equipment.

    Russians in the defense

  14. here you go.

I was not lying this is from a huge Ukrainian supporter

    -----Wallace comments Start.

Ben Wallace, the former Secretary of State for Defence of the UK, writes in the Telegraph:

Putin is desperately grasping at the final two things that can save him – time and the splitting of the international community. Britain can do something about both. We must help Ukraine maintain its momentum – and that will require more munitions, ATACMSs and Storm Shadows. And the best way to keep the international community together is the demonstration of success.
Ukraine can also play its part. The average age of the soldiers at the front is over 40. I understand President Zelensky’s desire to preserve the young for the future, but the fact is that Russia is mobilising the whole country by stealth. Putin knows a pause will hand him time to build a new army. So just as Britain did in 1939 and 1941, perhaps it is time to reassess the scale of Ukraine’s mobilisation.

Let us not pause for one day. Let us see this through. The world is watching to see if the West has the resolve to stand up for our values and the rules-based system. What we do now for Ukraine will set the direction for all of our security for years to come.

    ------Wallace comments end.

Think for a moment what the aside insert "The average age of the soldiers at the front is over 40" really means. Can Storm Shadows change that fact?

A comment from Germany----- says everything.

If what Wallace says about the average age on the Ukrainian front is true, 40 years, then the worst assumptions about losses have been far exceeded.

    end comments

In a draft based army your main pool of man power should be between the ages of 18 and 30. So about 24 should be you average "enlisted". Now officers it is different , That usually is an older population.

This is ugly. Where are all the young men? Where have all the flowers gone?

    1. It includes wounded not just dead , but yeah both sides figures are inaccurate . To start though do the conservative math of 4000 assorted Russian Tanks, APC and IFV . Let's average it out to 4 men per vehicle (3 in tanks, probably 8 in apc etc but let's be generous )
That's 16 to 20000 just in that alone .So Russian figures are absoloutey laughable , Ukranian not so much .
