U.S. Speaker McCarthy Ousted In Historic House Vote

The Hill: House makes history, removes McCarthy as Speaker

The House on Tuesday voted to remove Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as Speaker, a never-before-seen historic vote that leaves the lower chamber of Congress in chaos.

The mutiny, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), came days after McCarthy averted a government shutdown by putting a stopgap measure on the floor that garnered Democratic support — a move that infuriated hardline Republicans.

In the final 216-210 vote, seven Republicans joined Gaetz to unseat McCarthy. Every Democrat in the chamber also voted to boot McCarthy, refusing to help protect him from his unruly conference. McCarthy said he would give Democrats nothing if they were to vote to help him.

WNU Editor: It looks like this is the end of the road for him .... McCarthy won’t run for Speaker again (The Hill). I recall watching the news a day before the vote where Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was deriding talk that Rep. Matt Gaetz was going to succeed in having him ousted. Hmmmm talk about underestimating your opponent.

Update: The search for a new Speaker now starts .... It's on: The bare-knuckle battle for House GOP leadership spots begins (Politico).

  1. Republicans should feel very uncomfortable that 12 "hardline" GOP conservatives combined with 100% of the enemy left-wing Democrats to oust McCarthy. Very suspicious the "hardline" Republicans supported the Communist/Socialist/Progressive Democrats in this matter.

  2. "House Kevin McCarthy was deriding talk that Rep. Matt Gaetz was going to succeed in having him ousted. Hmmmm talk about underestimating your opponent. "

    What are your choices?

    1) Put on a brave face. This strat could push more people into your camp or at least keep some from defecting. This strat is number one or number two strat most people use

    2) Call it like it us. Be clinical. this strat is number 1 or 2. Much easier for people without a dog in the fight to use this one

    3) Cry and blubber "He's going to get me!"

"A leaderless GOP is worse than a gutless GOP. What do we have now?" - Monica

That nut graf is an indication that there was major problems and major dissatisfaction with the leadership by Republican voters

Now this is one of the 3 major reason that this happened. Many people have been unhappy for a long time. Another major reason is because the press is free to lie. What an example? A reporter knowingly reported lies about Trevor Bauer, but the reporter did it anyway. People were unhappy with Boehner, Cantor and Paul Ryan. Pretty much they have been unhappy for over a decade. Both McCain and Romney were letdowns.

The Democrat party is called the Evil Party and the Republican Party is called the Stupid Party.

I have a tolerance for loud, obnoxious and pushy. because that is what Democrats are. It is what they are on top of the nonstop lies.

It is why I do not knee jerk reject Green, Boebert or Gaetz. What has decorum, which the Bushes supposedly have, get us? Bush called a monkey, a shrub and worse. McCain and Bush reached across the aisle and all the Democrats wanted to do was impeach GWB.

You want three things in a leader. The will to rule, intelligence/wisdom and good morality. Hillary has the will to rule in spades. Jeb did not have it. He did not have the killer instinct. He let Trump walk all over him. It is a good thing he was not elected. Romney does not have it. He let the moderator of the second debate lie and walk all over him.

Maybe it is not McCarthy's fault. Maybe he is Aurelian and not Aurelius. Aurelian by many account was competent and doing the right things. Empire was too far gone and he was assassinate.

Another person without the will to power is Rep. Cuellar. His cv is impressive. He has the obligatory JD. Big deal he has a JD. What matters to me is that he practiced law for a substantial amount of time. Most of the other bozos in DC if they have a JD practiced it so little and it has been so long All their JD is worth is getting their foot in the door so they can network. They are not any good at lawyering.

But after Cuellar got carjacked I heard him discuss it on TV. He sounds like a complete wimp. He is definitely not presidential material. Too bad .His cv and cursus honorum is pretty damn good. Maybe he needs to go to dude ranch like Theodore Roosevelt did and learn how to become a dude.

  7. Unlike 3:33 I have been to Indonesia. I know what it looks like. I know its history. I know its vital stats almost as well as the CIA factbook.

3:33's idea of foreign travel is a day trip to a Caribbean island while on a Carnival Cruise.

  10. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) told CNN on Wednesday morning that he recorded his Monday night call with Kevin McCarthy that featured the since-ousted Speaker of the House “belittling” the Tennessee lawmaker. Burchett, who was one of eight Republicans to vote to remove McCarthy from his speakership, said on Tuesday that it was McCarthy’s mockery of his pre-vote prayer session that “sealed it right there for me.” With McCarthy denying that he ridiculed the congressman for praying on the decision, Burchett appeared on CNN on Wednesday morning and revealed he taped their conversation. “I have a recording of what was said,” he said, adding that “the conversation went on in a belittling tone.” While noting that he’s “got it just in case I need it,” Burchett stated that he’s “not going to do anything with it” and doesn’t plan on sharing it.

  11. Learn how to read mother. I made a comparison. Where did I say I had access to secret knowledge not available to the public? The comparison was to a well know and public compendium of facts.

The point of my rely was the fact that you threw the name Indonesia out there like it was an inconsequential country. The boondocks. Timbukctu. I on the other hand know its size and its military and political significance.

Been to New Jersey also. It was for firefighting school in Freehold, NJ. Unlike you I have skills.

So McCarthy got booted. Maybe the Republicans will not play like they are the Washington Generals now.

The Republicans have the 3 McPhails as a WABC personality has said..

    Mccarthy
    McConnell
    McDaniel

They all need to be booted.

  12. Wondering who would be the best replacement? Republicans need a bare-knuckle fighter, who will fight hard and without mercy against the Communists/Democrats
