KYIV/LONDON (Reuters) - Frontline Ukrainian troops face shortages of artillery shells and have scaled back some military operations because of a shortfall of foreign assistance, a senior army general told Reuters.

Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi was speaking after Republican lawmakers held up a $60-billion U.S. aid package and Hungary blocked 50 billion euros ($54.5 billion) in European Union funding for Kyiv as it battles Russia's invasion.

"There's a problem with ammunition, especially post-Soviet (shells) - that's 122 mm, 152 mm. And today these problems exist across the entire front line," he said in an interview.

Tarnavskyi said the shortage of artillery shells was a "very big problem" and the drop in foreign military aid was having an impact on the battlefield.

  1. Although you will never *ever* hear it on this blog, as it's strictly pro-kremlin, Ukraine despite all its manpower shortages, resource shortages and equipment faults, there is something to be said about the indominable spirit of a nation that refuses to bow down to their aggressor who seeks to destroy their identity and sovereignty.

Ukraine has done so much to dispel the myth that is Russia's grand military.

    1. Pretty much the same as with the Afghans and the Americans

    2. And all those videos circulating online of Ukrainians being pulled off the streets and shuttled to recruitment centres? Ukraine won’t exist after this is all said and done.

  2. I sometimes imagine what it's like being a guy who looks like this commander in Nu-Ukraine. After all the racist propaganda demonizing slavs with "asiatic features" you're still expected to wave the flag and fight their war. At least the French African colonial troops were given promises about their own independence. How loyal can an untermensch be when the country he's fighting for was sold off to Larry Fink? I think this spring will see more than a few of them answering that question.
