The Cradle: US warship targeted by Yemeni cruise missile: CENTCOM
The USS Laboon was deployed to the region in mid-October in support of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza
The US army said on 15 January that one of its navy destroyers was targeted by an anti-ship cruise missile fired by Yemen’s Ansarallah resistance movement early on Monday 14 January.
According to the statement, the missile was shot down near the coast of Hodeidah by US fighter jets, and no injuries or damages were reported.
Washington’s Laboon destroyer was deployed to the region on 14 October after US Secretary Defense directed it, along with others, to the Mediterranean in support of Israel’s war on Gaza, Al-Mayadeen news said.
According to Al-Mayadeen, the Laboon warship shot down four Yemeni attack drones on 23 December, as it was heading towards Israel.

Strange. A cruise missile hitting the USS Laboon would do as much or more damage than the suicide attack on the USS Cole.
ReplyDeleteThe Iranian cruise missiles are similar to Russian Kh-55 cruise missiles for some odd reason.
Warhead would be up to 1,000 pounds of high explosives. I have seen films of cruise missiles hitting destroyers during tests. It engulfs the superstructure. I would rather be on a break bulk merchant ship than a destroyer, if a cruise missile were to hit. Greater chance of survival. I can count frames.
Air cover shot down the missile. I do not know a lot, but if the cruise missile was sea skimming, could an Arleigh Burke radar pick it up from the clutter?
It begs the question. If there was not a CAP would the ship have been hit?
The Laboon has 281 crew. You would think 30 or more would have died, if the ship had been hit. What is Obama or the Cabal behind Biden doing?
The Houthis threw a haymaker. It did not connect, but that is not the point. They intended it to connect and if it had, it would have been a knock out blow. In a street fight after a knock out the next thing coming is a head stomp.
So why the measured strike in retaliation. So there were leaks. Plug them and strike again until the actual death and destruction of Houthis military personnel is 10X what could have been if the Laboon had been hit. to not hit that hard is to invite derision and more attacks.
Well what did you expect?
ReplyDeleteA bouquet of roses?
The us is sticking it's neck out again. It just might find the fight is uglier than expected.
The dumb ass in the street...
Ooohhh look those nasty sand pigs attacked us!!!
That's right wille e coyote, after you stuck your nose into the wasps nest.
This is not going to end soon. The longer we stay the more likely our people will die.
Simple as that. You already got two seals dead.

ReplyDeleteGood thoughts.
Probably had a JSTARS / AWACS / COMPASS CALL up and active in zone.
Also
In the old days, cruise missiles were virtually unstoppable. Not now.
But, There is a lot ,more out there than just kinetics.
Maybe that jet or ship has some new type of growler out there blocking all EMR in the area?
Btw. Considering the air assets as listed above. The US saw that thing as soon as it was launched.
That is how good our stuff is in a permissive environment.
"Btw. Considering the air assets as listed above. The US saw that thing as soon as it was launched."
ReplyDeleteWhich is a mistake on the Iranians part.
For the sailors and airmen this was better than a live fire exercise. They pay attention because if they do not, it is likely lethal. Yet, if they pay attention these is little to know risk.
This was good training. People were not going through the exercises.
Can't say the same for the Russians. Lot of them got real world experience in the Black sea. Then they were dead so lessons learned were lost.
Big deal? One of the reasons Japanese America air losses were so one sided as the war progressed was the Japanese lost experience because of dead aces, whereas America rotated theirs to training units.
