I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends.
Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie.
The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine "winning" this war.
- By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone. - Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail. - In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men. - The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service. - Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is "a death sentence." - It's getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines. - Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.
- The territory celebrated as having been "won back" from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return. - They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It's a "joke" and "propaganda." They say: “Look around: is this winning?”. - Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”.
There is no ambiguity in these people. The war was for nothing - a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare.
They are pleading for an end, any end - most likely the same "peace" that could have been achieved two years ago. In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no "victory" that can change that.
Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West. They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelenky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.
I didn't witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking.
Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

In October 2014, Russian occupation forces tortured and brutally beat 16 year old Stepan Chubenko to death for wearing Ukrainian colours on his bag. He was tortured for days, shot multiple times in the back of the head. His broken body with no teeth left was found in a dump.

This particular plane it has been reported went to Syria and Iran. Someone mentioned it would make more sense to transport S-300 via the Caspian Sea where the theocracy and Kleptocracy have ports. That would make sense unless, someone wanted to expedite shipment for the cold weather missile blitz. Or less likely was that after delivering material to Syria, the plane loaded up S-300s in Tehran rather than go back empty. At ant rate the plane had already offloaded whatever it weas at Belgorod.

Why would a POW exchange involve flying POWs from Belgorod to Moscow before turning them over? And why not use a train? Air mile are much more expensive than train miles.

yes the IL-76 was shot down.... BUT many are missing the big picture... it was shot down over russia, not ukraine... now russia knows that ukraine can reach 160km or more inside russia
this means that MOST of the large airports in russia can be shut down by ukraine at any time...
and all airports 160-200 km can be targeted by air defense.
Given the recent travel of that particular aircraft, the fact that a number of the supposed POWs were already exchanged, and the seemingly illogical act of using a heavy lift cargo plane to transport prisoners at a time when the unique capabilities of that aircraft are surely in high demand, I'm chalking this up to more Russian disinformation. Between this and the two previously downed spy/early warning aircraft, the Russia air force is going to be hard pressed to replace these specialized planes.

Once again the Russian NAZIs broke the Geneva convention. there are rules on how you transport POWs. If there were POWs on the aircraft then Ruzzia broke the rules.
Russian military-transport IL-76 flew this route (it took off from Belgorod and flew FROM Ukraine, not towards Ukraine), before that it flew from Egypt.
So far, there is no indication that it was a plane with prisoners.

The flight track of this aircraft will help confirm what happened here. If it can be shown that it was departing Belograd, rather than arriving? That would help shoot down the Russian claim, currently unsubstantiated, that it was carrying AFU POWs. The fact that the Russians aren’t broadcasting photos of dead bodies is also telling.
But if they’ve released a list of POWs supposedly killed, many of whom have already been released (see the Sofia Ukraini XTweet in the story, about 1/3rd down)? The Russian story is a lie. Which isn’t surprising, because the Russians are habitual liars. Time will tell; the truth should become much more apparent over the next 48 hours.

I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends.
Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie.
The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine "winning" this war.
- By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone.
- Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail.
- In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men.
- The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service.
- Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is "a death sentence."
- It's getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines.
- Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.
- The territory celebrated as having been "won back" from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return.
- They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It's a "joke" and "propaganda." They say: “Look around: is this winning?”.
- Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”.
There is no ambiguity in these people. The war was for nothing - a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare.
They are pleading for an end, any end - most likely the same "peace" that could have been achieved two years ago. In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no "victory" that can change that.
Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West. They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelenky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.
I didn't witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking.
Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends.
Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie.
The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine "winning" this war.
- By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone.
- Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail.
- In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men.
- The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service.
- Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is "a death sentence."
- It's getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines.
- Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.
- The territory celebrated as having been "won back" from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return.
- They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It's a "joke" and "propaganda." They say: “Look around: is this winning?”.
- Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”.
There is no ambiguity in these people. The war was for nothing - a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare.
They are pleading for an end, any end - most likely the same "peace" that could have been achieved two years ago. In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no "victory" that can change that.
Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West. They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelenky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.
I didn't witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking.
Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

This particular plane it has been reported went to Syria and Iran. Someone mentioned it would make more sense to transport S-300 via the Caspian Sea where the theocracy and Kleptocracy have ports. That would make sense unless, someone wanted to expedite shipment for the cold weather missile blitz. Or less likely was that after delivering material to Syria, the plane loaded up S-300s in Tehran rather than go back empty. At ant rate the plane had already offloaded whatever it weas at Belgorod.

Why would a POW exchange involve flying POWs from Belgorod to Moscow before turning them over? And why not use a train? Air mile are much more expensive than train miles.

Given the recent travel of that particular aircraft, the fact that a number of the supposed POWs were already exchanged, and the seemingly illogical act of using a heavy lift cargo plane to transport prisoners at a time when the unique capabilities of that aircraft are surely in high demand, I'm chalking this up to more Russian disinformation. Between this and the two previously downed spy/early warning aircraft, the Russia air force is going to be hard pressed to replace these specialized planes.

That would help shoot down the Russian claim, currently unsubstantiated, that it was carrying AFU POWs. The fact that the Russians aren’t broadcasting photos of dead bodies is also telling.
But if they’ve released a list of POWs supposedly killed, many of whom have already been released (see the Sofia Ukraini XTweet in the story, about 1/3rd down)? The Russian story is a lie. Журналісти «Схем» (Радіо Свобода) встановили прізвища членів екіпажу російського літака Іл-76, що впав вранці 24 січня у Бєлгородській області. Загибель щонайменше трьох із них підтвердили їхні родичі. Екіпаж належав до 117-го військово-транспортного авіаційного полку із дислокацією в Оренбурзі.

Родичі підтвердили загибель трьох із них – це 36-річний командир корабля Станіслав Беззубкін, штурман корабля Олексій Високін, 38-річний бортінженер Андрій Пілуєв.
Загибель командира корабля Станіслава Беззубкіна підтвердила його дружина Маріка Беззубкіна. Вона сказала, що про це їй повідомили у російському Міністерстві оборони. Вона розповіла, що востаннє спілкувалась з чоловіком близько 7-30 ранку (за московським часом – ред.), в цей час він, за її словами, мав вилітати з Москви.

Дружина бортового інженера Андрія Пілуєва зазначила, що знає про його про загибель, але офіційно детальної інформації їй ще не надали.

Відповідно до відкритих джерел, Пілуєв був нагороджений медаллю «За повернення Криму» та за участь у бойових діях у Сирії.
Загибель штурмана Олексія Високіна підтвердила його двоюрідна сестра. Вона сказала, що їй про це стало відомо від його батьків.

Під фото ще одного члена екіпажу Іл-76 бортового радиста Ігоря Саблінського у соцмережі з’явились коментарі, в яких висловлюють співчуття щодо його загибелі.
Також політ мав обслуговувати бортінженер авіадесантного обладнання Сергій Житєньов та помічник командира корабля Вадим Чмірьов, але наразі не вдалося незалежно підтвердити їхню загибель.
Згідно з витоками з російських баз даних, місцем служби п’ятьох членів екіпажу вказаний 117-й військово-транспортний авіаційний полк. Таку ж інформацію публікувало Головне управління розвідки Міноборони України у березні 2022 року, вказавши Беззубкіна, Високіна, Пілуєва, Житєньова та Саблінського у списку військовослужбовців 117-го окремого транспортного авіаційного полку, «які доставляють зброю та боєприпаси для вбивства мирних громадян України».

117-й полк – це військова частина №45097 в Оренбурзькій області. Згідно з відкритими даними, цей полк займається обслуговуванням військово-транспортних засобів, що перевозять спеціальні вантажі для матеріального забезпечення армії РФ. Літаки цього полку базуються на аеродромі в Оренбурзі.

Інформацію російської влади про те, що на борту також перебували українські полонені, наразі незалежно перевірити не вдалось.
У Міноборони РФ стверджують, що на борту літака нібито перебували 65 полонених українських військовослужбовців, які перевозилися до Бєлгородської області для обміну, а також шість членів екіпажу та троє супроводжуючих.
Головне управління розвідки МОУ повідомило, що на 24 січня дійсно планувався обмін, але інформація про те, що військовополонені нібито перебували на борту літака, наразі перевіряється.
Згодом Головне управління розвідки Міністерства оборони України констатувало, що «запланований на 24 січня обмін не відбувся, водночас відомство не володіє даними, чи перебували українські полонені на борту».
Тим часом низка українських медіа з посиланням на свої джерела повідомляла, що збиття військово-транспортного літака Іл-76 є роботою Збройних сил України. Згодом цю частину інформації видалили. За даними джерел ЗМІ, цей літак, ймовірно, перевозив ракети до комплексів С-300.

Actually, Cyrillic is a pain in the ass.
ReplyDeleteBut then you remember the Greek alphabet used in scientific notation and it becomes pronounceable from the written word. Cyrillic is easier than the rules for pronouncing the letter c. So it has that going for it. Remember certain place names in Cyrillic and English for brute memorization of the alphabet to ease the rote memorization and this might become doable.
What sticks in my craw is that Russian trolls know English and I do not know Russian. So I intend to fix it.
Besides the Russian aristocracy is making a nuisance of themselves, a very dangerous nuisance, so learning Russian is necessary.
I know WNU Editors Mom was in the latter years and enduring terminal health issues. He mentioned repeatedly that the day was very close. If this is the reason for his absence, then him taking as long as he needs to mourn and clear his head should be perfectly fine with everyone here. I think that after 4 weeks of undisclosed absence - that would definitely raise some serious questions about his personal health, potential political whacking or censorship by the far left and oppressive Canadian Government or something like that. His blog has become a heavily trafficked page over the past 5-7 years, and there are many people in high up positions in government including the white house that frequently reference his work. ReplyDeleteUKR sources report that there were no Ukrainian POWs aboard the Russian Il-76 cargo plane that crashed today near Belgorod. UKR also indicated that the aircraft was a regular flight delivering S-300 missiles that are routinely fired against UKR cities.
