Is The NSA Responsible For Recent Undersea Cable Cuts And Damages?
WNU Editor: In the past few years there has been numerous reports of undersea internet cables being cut or damaged. See here, here , and here. There is also this case where three Egyptian divers were caught hacking into an undersea cable off Egypt earlier this year.
With recent NSA revelations now coming to light .... the question begs itself .... is the NSA and/or other intelligence agencies responsible for these disruptions .... that while "tapping" the undersea cables they actually ending up damaging it.
Update: There is a precedent where the NSA did tap into an undersea cable. The operation was code named Operation Ivy Bells and it was a joint United States Navy, CIA and National Security Agency (NSA) mission whose objective was to place wire taps on Soviet underwater communication lines during the Cold War. See here for more info.
Update #2: The world's undersea internet map is here.
