Ukrainian Civil War Would Likely Spill Across Border – Expert -- RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - The killing of a notorious ultranationalist by police in Ukraine has ignited a firestorm that could lead to a civil war and spark a broader European conflict, said Stephen Lendman, a Chicago-based radio host and author.

"Kiev residents are unhappy about what's going on in the country, especially given the continuing anti-government protests in eastern Ukraine. A possible civil war could erupt. It could spill across the border," Lendman said.

"A potential East-West confrontation could follow," he added.

Around 2,000 supporters of the country's ultranationalist Right Sector movement encircled and threatened to storm the country's parliament late Thursday night.

My Comment: To put it bluntly .... the situation in Ukraine is horrible .... and the Western media is failing in covering the many facets of this crisis. This is what I am hearing from my family and friends who live in Ukraine .... Ukraine is a deeply divided country, corruption is continuing, the economy has imploded, and the rule of law has become ineffective. The central government is dominated by western Ukrainians (there are no eastern Ukrainians in the cabinet) .... and many in the Russian dominated east feel effectively shut out and alienated from Kiev. But fortunately .... even with all of these crisis .... there is apparently no appetite to plunge the country into a civil war. The situation on the ground is still too fluid to know what will happen next, but the population is primarily focused on the economy, having work and money, and being able to buy the basic goods. But everyone that I know who lives in Ukraine are also telling me this .... if the economic situation does not improve, if eastern Ukrainians are shut out in the up and coming general elections, and if the present central government's anti-Russian laws and policies become the law of the land .... then anything is possible, including widesprad violence and a fracturing of the eastern part of the country into the arms of Russia. In the event that this happens .... Europe will be facing it's greatest crisis since the Yugoslav civil war.
