Afghan Elections Head To Second Round After No Candidate Gains An Absolute Majority -- The Telegraph
Afghans will choose between two candidates in a run-off election on June 7, in Afghanistan's first democratic transfer of power.
Afghanistan is set to hold a second round run-off in its presidential elections after preliminary results showed no candidate was able to win an absolute majority.
The vote will be contested by former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and ex-World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani.
Mr Abdullah won 44.9 per cent of the vote in the first round, whilst Mr Ghani was second with 31.5 per cent.
Zalmai Rassoul, the third main candidate, and the reported favourite of incumbent President Hamid Karzai, finished a distant third with 11.5 per cent.
