Iraqi Military: The City Of Ramadi Has Been 'Liberated' From The Islamic State

Daily Mail: Just THREE HUNDRED ISIS jihadis held Ramadi for seven months against Iraqi force of 10,000

* Just 600 ISIS fighters conquered Ramadi in May, sent Iraqi soldiers fleeing
* Iraqi state TV showed Iraqis celebrating in the streets after Ramadi victory
* Recapture will be used as launchpad to retake Nineveh, said Iraqi politician
* ISIS leader filmed making rare public speech in Mosul in Nineveh governate

The ISIS stronghold of Ramadi has been 'fully liberated' by 10,000 Iraqi soldiers who took six days to wrestle the city from just 300 jihadis.

The extremists locked themselves into a government complex yesterday, from where they tried to hold off an advancing army backed by US-led airstrikes.

They stopped firing at 8am this morning, said Brigadier General Ahmed al-Belawi, who believes they were either killed or have escaped.

The victory will be a huge boost to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his army, who lost large parts of the country to ISIS last June.

WNU Editor: This is telling .... no mention or thanks from the Iraqi government on the support that the U.S. provided in this liberation .... No mention of US air support as Maliki salutes Ramadi liberation (Rudaw).

At a DOD Press Briefing by Col. Warren via Teleconference from Baghdad, Iraq there was little information on US air attacks in Ramadi- only this: "In the last 24 hours, coalition airpower has delivered 33 munitions in direct support of offensive operations in Ramadi."

also--
COL. WARREN, Dec 22: There are not any Shia forces participating in the Ramadi operation. These are decisions that the Iraqi government makes. You know, we have acknowledged the presence of Shia fighters. You know, we've acknowledged that they participated in Baiji and others, a little bit in Tikrit.
Q: Did the Iraqis ever request the use of attack helicopters as SECDEF offered the other week? COL. WARREN: They haven't requested the use of Apaches for this operation. No, they have not.--DOD

but....
Iraqi VP Maliki, Dec 27: “We salute our heroes that returned the trust of their people and proved the power of success when the forces are united,” said Maliki. He, in particular, praised the Shiite militia forces for their role in the liberation of Ramadi. --Rudaw
-- No mention of US air attacks. Apparently they were not consequential in the infantry-based house-by-house urban effort in Ramadi.
