Alexander Velez-Green, Small Wars Journal: The United States and Russia Are Already at War

The United States and Russia are already at war. At least, that’s what many in Moscow seem to think. This war is not fought like past conflicts. It’s prosecuted today primarily by non-military means. But, the secondary role of military operations does not lessen the danger it poses to U.S. strategic interests. Moscow is targeting the United States in ways that sidestep America’s traditional understanding of warfare. Its seeks to cripple the United States, shatter NATO, and fill the void left by America’s absence. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration may offer opportunities to de-escalate the confrontation. But doing so successfully will depend on Washington’s ability to adapt to Moscow’s novel way of war.

WNU Editor: Being one who grew up during the Cold War .... I can say without reservation that the U.S. and Russia are not at war. I will also admit that I am always laughing when I read commentaries from the West who see the current Russian political/military/intelligence establishment as some monolithic, brilliant, and innovative force that is always plotting on ways and means to subvert the West to its agenda. Sighhh .... the truth on the ground says another story. The last thing that the Russian political establishment wants right now is another Cold War. They cannot afford it, and more to the point .... there is very little appetite among the Russian public to endure another East-West conflict. Protect Russia and Russian interests there is support for that .... to destabilise the West in order to insure Russian security interests .... if you make that statement to most (if not all) Russians, they would think you are insane. So why the rush from many in the West to say that we are entering a period of conflict with Russia .... considering how messed up the world has become and the role of the U.S. in messing it up .... you have to blame someone else besides yourself.

WNU,
I agree with you. We have problem together, yes, who has not? Theses problems are not giants and mainly based on misunderstanding...thanks Obama. We have to look the big picture: as soon our "currents problems" will be fixed, the way is completely open for a " complementary association" between US and Russia. And if that's not obvious on today it will be very important in the future.
