Korean Peace Talks On Verge Of Collapse Over North Korea's Refusal To Give Up Its Nuclear Weapons

The Hill: North Korean official says country will rethink US summit if pressured to abandon nuclear program

North Korea will reconsider a planned summit with President Trump if it continues to be pressured to "unilaterally" abandon its nuclear program, according to a senior North Korean official.

Yonhap News Agency reported on Tuesday that North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan says the country will not accept a U.S. deal that will force the country to abandon its nuclear program in exchange for the relaxation of economic sanctions.

Trump accepted an offer for a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un earlier this year, stunning Washington D.C. and the world after months of tough talk aimed at Kim's government.

So the Norks finally show their cards. It was never going to happen. This whole summit idea was a scam to buy more time and soften up the South Koreans to Trumps highly successful trade embargo. I can hear the B-2’s now.

"I can hear the B-2s now." War isn't neccessarily inevitable. South Korea could develop its own nuclear arsenal to act as a check on North Korea. If I were among South Korea's leaders, this is the policy I would persue. If I were among America's leaders, I would encourage them to do this. This would enhance South Korea's defense, take some of the pressure off of the US military, and would likely strengthen the US/South Korean alliance.

Well, this is happening just after a "strong" meeting between Kim and Xi. China doesn't like this agreement with US and have threaten NoKo. That's the only explanation of the U turn of Kim who said before he would give up its nuclear weapon.
We have to destroy China.

Kim knows he'll not see the end of this year if he crosses Trump. There are other options than war. The world wants Kim gone. He better be careful not to overplay his hand. This is as close to the grave as he can safely step. One more mistake and we'll see pictures of him and his grave during this new year's eve TV highlights...you know, when they look at the passed year. He'll be gone by then or give up his nukes. 100% guaran-fcking-teed

Considering the US want North Korea to expel all of its nuclear scientists... This is not about peace, this seems more about weaking NK till the point it can be invaded. If i was Kim i would put it simply as, give up yours first!

If this collapses war is most likely inevitable as Kim has proven that any peace overtures are nothing but a play for time, or to seek concessions.
A is most likely correct on this the b2s are being prepped.

Nobody wants to invade n.k,it would have happened long ago.

The world definitely does not want Kim gone. Only the west does. And as the east says, eff the west. War with Korea will drag China in. USA can't take losses and there will be massive losses.

Fazman, or the US might have made the decision to stand down until after the meeting(s) instead of continuing the provocation. There is nothing the US fears more than when peace breaks out.

Face it, the US does not look great in this but then of course, and according to the President, the US is not only not great but is greatly showing how ungreat it really is.

"Nobody wants to invade NK. Ban yourself from the keyboard." I couldn't agree more!!" Fazman is entirely correct. This would have happened long ago. In fact, it would have happened before NK was as strong as it is now. With that said war is not inevitable. The possibility I suggested above is viable.

Bob,

The US isn't being provocative. As more information comes out it appears this isn't about military drills but is instead about NK not wanting to honor its agreements with SK.

"There is nothing the US fears more than when peace breaks out." Actually this isn't true. The US wants and even desparately needs peace. This is why the US embraced NK overtures so enthusiastically. At one point, Russia and China must have felt peace was wanted and even needed hence they agreed to sanctions. It is NK who needs an external enemy to justify the continuance of their government. To do this, they are the ones who fear peace.

I think the next moves will be Russia and China's. If we can get back to a situation of the heightened tensions that have existed there for decades but where war isn't necessarily inevitable or immediate, this would not be optimal but is probably something we could live with.

In a war between NK and the US millions of Americans if not 10s of millions of Americans are going to die. NK and US leaders certainly know this. NK has always been confident they would have Russia and China behind them. As such, they've had nothing to fear for decades.

Jac,

The meeting between China and NK happens and now this. These may not be a coincidence. As such, it appears it is China who does not want "peace to break out." It may be NK and China who don't want peace to break out as they need the external enemy to justify their current positions of power. In contrast, the US desparately wants and needs peace. As stated, this is why we saw such enthusiasm on the part of the Americans to embrace this process.

You write "we have to destroy China." Very respectfully are you trying to be sarcastic. Without the use of nuclear weapons which would invite a massive retaliation both from China and Russia, this is impossible. China is a military force that is every bit on par with America and very possibly superior to America. Destroying them would impossible and would lead to massive US casualties that would pale in comparison to the millions who would die in a fight against North Korea alone.
