CNN: Bolton says 'it's possible' US will sanction European companies working with Iran
Washington (CNN)White House national security adviser John Bolton said Sunday that "it's possible" there will be secondary sanctions imposed on European companies as a result of the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.
Bolton said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he believes some European countries will end up supporting the United States despite comments from European leaders that they regret Trump's decision to withdraw.
"I think the Europeans will see that's in their interest ultimately to go along with this," he said.
But Bolton didn't rule out sanctions for European companies doing business with Iran.
"It's possible," Bolton said. "It depends on the conduct of other governments."

Iran is evil and cannot be allowed to have nukes. I also agree that any countries and companies supporting the regime should be sanctioned.
However, the US should be ready for the backlash from these countries (mainly Europeans allies). Nobody likes being told what to do (especially by an outsider) or being forced into making certain decisions; in this case being punished for doing business with Iran.
The US needs to give EU something so they can save face and hopefully minimize any resentment they may have over this. There's a divide that's been slowly growing between the US and EU over the last decade or so and we need to work to preserve the alliance. There's also a growing divide between EU nations, internally.
These divides need to be monitored closely. These alliances need to be maintained. Compromise is key, but unfortunately, we seem to be living in an all or nothing world right now.
Europe is dreaming if they think Trump goes easy on sanctions with them, same with tariffs. They have some explaining to do about their conduct in 2016.
MI6 involved with Dems to slime Trump appears to have happened.
German govt officials regularly insulted Trump before the election
Merkel insulted Trump when she laid out terms for Trump to observe if he wanted her cooperation right after he won
They made rookie mistakes and burned their goodwill.
Don’t forget Nordstream 2 now adding to the dispute, it’s a biggie and it’s Merkel giving Trump the finger.
