Did Russia Try To Organize A Coup In Montenegro Two Years Ago?

Newsweek: Exclusive: Russian Military Spies Backed Attempt to Assassinate Leader of Montenegro, Report Says

Russia’s rivalry with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) runs deep. But would the Kremlin try to assassinate a democratically elected leader to stop a country from joining the alliance?

WNU Editor: Like all things about the Balkans, I learned decades ago to be very suspicious on all the news that comes out of that region. Is the above report true .... I do not know. Is it possible that it is true .... definitely.

  2. Aizino,

I read the headline and I thought to myself "this can't be true only America does this. At,least that's what the media told me." I had the exact same thought you did.

I shall read the article. Now, is it true. While it could be, I suspect it isn't. There's little to no upside benefit along with huge downside risks. Additionally anti-Russian messaging runs rampant meaning there's substantial incentive to make things up. I'd treat such a report with extreme skepticism.
