Politico: White House delays Trump-Putin meeting, blames Mueller probe
The announcement appears to be part of an optics push that Trump is getting tough on Russia.
President Donald Trump will not host Russian President Vladimir Putin in Washington until 2019, White House national security adviser John Bolton said Wednesday, because it is Trump’s preference not to do so until “the Russia witch hunt is over.”
“The President believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we've agreed that it will be after the first of the year,” Bolton said in a statement distributed through the White House press pool.
Despite the White House’s announced timeline for a second Putin meeting, there is no hard deadline for special counsel Robert Mueller to wrap up his Russia investigation, which Trump has often referred to as a "witch hunt." And there is no public indication that Mueller will do so by the end of the year.

WNU Editor: As I had mentioned in a previous post, the Kremlin was shocked by the overwhelmingly negative press coverage and condemnations from Congress on the Helsinki Summit .... No Trump - Putin Summit In Washington D.C.? (July 24, 2018). More here .... McConnell: Putin will not be welcome at the Capitol (Daily Mail). In such an overwhelmingly negative atmosphere, the Kremlin saw no point in having Russian President Putin go to Washington, and told President Trump it was not going to happen.
A Brief History of the Deep State, Part 1
ReplyDeleteBy J.R. Nyquist
INTRODUCTION
What is the Deep State and how did it begin? In her 16 September 2017 blog, Diana West wrote about clues to the “beginnings” of the Deep State “which are surely to be found in the exponential expansion of the federal government under FDR.” This expansion, noted West, “included hundreds if not thousands of Soviet agents, Communists and their supporters, working all over the government, from the White House to the … wartime agencies that would soon be reconstituted as the CIA.”[i]
The following is a brief history of the Deep State. This history is built on facts and sources used in Diana West’s book, American Betrayal. Material has been added from other sources as well.

the deep state may be better than the one we have at present that is so visible
After the mid terms I anticipate there will be more Republicans in Congress who are in sync with Trump's agenda. At that time, we can finalize agreements with countries like Russia. In the meantime, I suspect there are other ways we can keep the lines of communication open.
ReplyDeleteAfter the mid terms when the meeting is finalized, I would not expect it to be in DC unless Trump actually makes some concrete in changes in policy towards Russia. After all why would arguably the most powerful man in the world want to meet with POTUS in DC? This gives POTUS a certain degree of prestige that I don't think the Kremlin or Putin would feel is warranted for a POTUS.
That is unless we start to see significant changes in US policy toward Russia. So far, while the rhetoric from team Trump may have been more respectful toward Russia than from the previous Administration, the actual policies haven't changed and, in some areas, may be even tougher.
As to the rhetoric, one does not dress down arguably the most powerful man in the world making bellicose threats over allegations that are unproven and very likely rest on flimsy evidence anyway. Very respectfully, this is just dumb beyond measure.
