Business Insider/SCMP: China's new missile destroyers will guard its aircraft carriers — here's how they stack up to the US Navy
* China is building advanced warships to defend its expanding fleet of aircraft carriers, specifically an unnamed next-generation carrier reportedly still in the works
* The Type 055 guided-missile destroyers are said to be the world's second most powerful destroyers
* These powerful warships still trail behind the Zumwalt-class destroyers of the US Navy
China has launched four Type 055 guided-missile destroyers in the past 13 months and is building four more to meet its need for advanced warships
They are Asia's largest and most advanced destroyers, designed to guard China's first home-grown aircraft carrier and meet the navy's demand for modern warships.

The home-built warships — which analysts have called the second most powerful globally — are to serve as the primary escorts for People's Liberation Army aircraft carrier strike groups.

WNU editor: When I first started this blog the Chinese Navy was only a minor Navy. Ten years later .... they are the second most powerful Navy in the world. One can only imagine where they will be ten years from now.
@ WNU editor..... at the bottom of the ocean if we’re lucky.
ReplyDeleteThe chinese still need about 10 years until they can somewhat reliably fight the US Navy.Assuming their 'quiet' subs are on the drawing boards and their construction should start around 2020.It takes about 4 years to finish one and another year of trials so 2025 before the first 'effective' SSN gets commissioned.Of course just one is not enough so at least 4-6 operational meaning at least 1-2 at sea at any given time.So another 3-5 years until the SSN fleet becomes 'effective'.So around 2028.For waters close to the coastline the current and future conventional subs probably can handle it.So around 2028 not earlier.Of course i have a feeling the US will not wait that long to 'settle' the matter.
ReplyDeletethere is, though, more to warfare than the sole use of naval power
ReplyDeleteNothing last forever in this world. Hate to see when a dictator gains military power. Then starts to enforce their policies. Maybe in our life time will see some kind of major war? Probably not, but don't take much.
