Al Jazeera: Turkey 'ready to talk about everything' with US to solve disputes

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu adopts conciliatory tone but warns Ankara will accept 'no threatening, no dictating'.

Ankara, Turkey - Turkey has said it is willing to speak with the US to resolve an ongoing dispute between the two NATO allies, as the White House appeared to ratchet up pressure on Ankara.

Speaking to a group of foreign ambassadors in Ankara on Wednesday evening, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu appeared to extend an olive branch to US President Donald Trump's administration.

Cavusoglu also called on the US to "take into account our frustrations" with American policies.

WNU Editor: The Turkish government have completely underestimated the importance of Andrew Brunson to the Trump administration who see this Christian evangelical pastor being held in Turkey on terrorism charges as being completely unjust. This U.S. outrage also includes the current detention of US consular staff who are Turkish nationals as well as US citizens. That is why I believe Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's remarks that "Turkey is ready to talk about everything" is not sincere, and it should be treated as such.

  2. Well said, Turkey has lacked honesty with not just the USA but also the EU. I assume the Turks know they have little support in the Congress and there is no criticism of Trump's line against Turkey. Lots of congressmen wanted the US to get tougher with Turkey but Obama was cool to that idea. Trump isn't and I don't see any bloc forming to "reset" relations as this drags out.
