UN Report: Cost Of Syria War Destruction At $388 Billion

Al Arabiya/AFP: Cost of Syria war destruction at $388 bln: UN

Seven years of relentless conflict in Syria have wreaked destruction that the United Nations said on Wednesday had cost the country close to a whopping $400 billion.

The figure was released after a two-day meeting of more than 50 Syrian and international experts in neighboring Lebanon, hosted by the UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

ESCWA said the “volume of destruction in physical capital and its sectoral distribution” had been estimated at more than $388 billion (334 billion euros).

WNU Editor: This is a low-end estimate in my opinion, and the war is still continuing. As for the future .... Syria does not have resources like the Iraqis have with their oil to finance their reconstruction. Also .... Syria does not have allies that are willing to provide the tens of billions in grants and loans to rebuild the country. Bottom line .... it is going to take a long time for Syria to recover.

With no money Syria will become a partly failed-state. Iran and Russia will use what they are interested for. The rest of the country will by itself.
