Of course the timeline isn't real

we all know that Graham publicly (in a message to North Korea) quoted Trump as saying that he (Trump) will fix the North Korea situation one way or another (meaning by peace of war) before his first term ends.

North Korea - just like anyone else - cannot be 100% certain that Trump will get a second term. They know about the lame duck period, they know about the difficulty to get war approved, and they know about the presidential powers act that limits a president's war-efforts.

So yeah, it's a waiting game, a few gestures will be made until they can be sure if Trump gets back another term or not, if not, and if Trump will become a lame duck soon, then they will dig deep and burry themselves, making a war effort too costly/difficult for a lame duck president and the US in general

Plus, I'm sure China has given North Korea a lot of assurances in their last meeting, talking about how Chinese will take over the world and how their North Korean brothers can rule the Pacific with them .. all that stuff :)
