Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Disputes Report That He Was Plotting To Remove President Trump (Updated)

Daily Mail: BREAKING NEWS: Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein disputes report that he discussed using 25th Amendment to remove Trump – and even explored covertly recording him to gather evidence

* Explosive NY Times report says a frustrated Rosenstein discussed using his phone to tape discussions with Trump in order to document Oval Office chaos
* That, the Times said, would generate proof that Trump was unfit for office and should be removed via the 25th Amendment
* Rosenstein reportedly made the comment to then-Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe and FBI lawyer Lisa Page
* A former Obama-era Justice Department spokesman tweeted a suggestion that McCabe leaked the tale to the Times in a 'dangerous game'
* 'Shocked!!! Absolutely Shocked!!!' Donald Trump Jr. tweeted. 'Ohhh, who are we kidding at this point?'
* President George W. Bush's former press secretary Ari Fleischer blasted McCabe on Twitter for 'trying to burn down the house he once lived in'
* Chuck Schumer warned Trump not to use the revelation as an excuse to fire Rosenstein, whom the president blames for hiring Robert Mueller

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein suggested last year that he should make covert audio recordings of President Trump in order to build a case for removing him from office, according to a New York Times report.

Rosenstein disputed that account on Friday, and a Justice Department official who was reportedly in the room when Rosenstein talked about using the 25th Amendment to end the Trump presidency says he was being sarcastic.

That account agrees with a Fox News report based on sources who were in the room and said the meeting took place May 16, 2017.

WNU Editor: What I find remarkable about Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein response to these claims is that he is not denying that he made these remarks.

As to what is my personal take. It is going to take a few days for all of this to sort itself out, and we will know where this story is going to end up. But it is clear to me that former Deputy FBI Director MaCabe is upset with what has happened to him, and he has decided to get even with those who he believes put him where he is today. And wow .... he has succeeded in that. The ball is now in Attorney General Jeff Sessions hands, and considering what has happened, I do not see how he can save his Deputy Attorney General. You do not have people at this level in the government behaving like this. Here is an easy prediction .... people are going to be replaced, it is just a question of when.

Update: Some are speculating that this may be a set-up .... Speculation Swirls That Bombshell NYT Report Was Planted to Sabotage Rosenstein (Mediaite). My focus is on the accuracy of the report, and why has it taken this long to finally be made public.

  1. Rosenstein appointed Mueller and is his supervisor. He has tainted that appointment and his supervision and the results of Mueller's now clearly a witch hunt. Essentially poisoned the well given his blatant hostility to Trump.

Session has been in office now nearly 2 years and isn't involved in anyway with the collusion story. He should immediately remove Rosenstein, take charge of the Mueller investigation himself. Then end it.
Once done, appoint trusted prosecutors to investigate Rosenstein, his direct reports, Mueller and his team for similar obstructions. Obviously move to end all prosecutions.

  2. anon-- Sessions recused himself because...
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, facing a storm of criticism over newly disclosed contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States, recused himself on Thursday from any investigation into charges that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

His announcement, delivered at a terse news conference, came after a day of rapid-fire developments in a murky affair that has shadowed President Trump, jeopardized his closest aides and intensified pressure for a full inquiry into Moscow’s attempts to influence the election as well as the policies of the new administration.

  3. my view: there is no evidence that any suggestion of wearing a wife was actually carried out. That means no specific reason Trump can fire Rosenstein/Sessions since no evidence available

Porn stars? Love em and believe em!

Dirty sexist Clinton woman absuer who was probably the most entitled person to ever run for presidency? Totally vote for her

Abuse claimer that can't remember anything, then accuses a judge of an abhorrent crime, and she happrns to have strong links to and is being helped by the democratic party. "I believe her because she tells the truth". Did anyone else see that senator utter this nonsensical argument? How do these people get to be senator?

Because parrots like Fred vote Democrats.

  7. I will be glad to see Rosenstein gone.

    He has it coming.

That a liberal FBI agent fragged him, makes it delicious.

McCabe better consider his own options. Sure Rosenstein is out of a job. He loses some influence (maybe a lot), he loses money and social status.

... but he is not dead.

He was fragged, taken out of commission, but he is not dead.

... And he knows who fragged him, McCabe.

So will he call in favors and have McCabe criminally prosecuted?

Rosenstein ran a lot if interference or provided a lot of air cover (pick you analogy) for Never Trumpers and Democrats. Now those part have lost their asset, Rosenstein.

Can they handle the battle with that asset gone?

Most of us are happy to see Rosenstein hoisted.

  8. mock om...mock on...Rosy/Sessions/Mueller may and probably be dumped AFTER the coming elections...then, with no further investigations or consequences or MSM annoyances, the ship of state...aka The Titanic..will sail on, with the wealthy in plush quarters and the riff raff tucked below close to coal burning boilers...my advice: don't forget your dingy

You just repeat narratives. You don't see the massive moral failures on the Democrats side. I used to vote D - but after the last two years and the character assassinations and dirty tricks and resistance movement that comes close to actual treason, you dumb dumb parrot see nothing wrong. You just keep watching CNN, parrot

  12. Fred,

Interestingly your analogy regarding the Titanic is spot on. As a University professor, in tne plush quarters formerly worshiped by all, you fail to grasp this.

What you described wbout the ship of state is what was going on before Trump came to office. Had :the "ship of state" continued in tne direction BHO had charted it on such would have been dangerous even suicidal. This is what HRC was offering.

Knowing this many of those "riff raff" voted for DJT not fully knowing what would happen but knowing HRC reptesented exteeme danger to them and perhaps even death to their families.

Now these "riff raff" hope the ship can "sail on" with you and your deep state ilk OUT OF THE Way FOREVER!! If this happens, America might actually becone tne most powerful country in the world. Since it appears some have decided we MUST have a new conflict with Russia, actually being capable of winning such a war wluldd be EXTREMELY helpful.

Thank you VERY VERY much for going out of your way for starting and inflaming a war we didn't need, can't readily afford, and may not be able to
    win.

Saving the bottom line of a loser politician is NOT worth it!! Narrrisitic losers need to get over themselves. We aren't going to sacrifice our families to advance your futures. You aren't worth it. Take your myths of Russian "collusion" or whatever and BE GONE FROM US FOREEVER!! Do so and you will be allowed to keep ypur stolen wealth. While I'm hopeful you will come to your senses, I'm not optimistic you will. Narcissists such as HRC and her ilk must be utterly destroyed. Either Americans do it or a foreign power does it. As it is gping to happen one way or the otner, HRC and her inner circle should hope and pray it happene at the hands of Americans who will be far more merciful than a foreign power will be. One way or the other, they will BE GONE FROM US FOREVER!! We can only hope and pray that their due justice is dealt out at the hands of Americans.

You're right Fred. Without Mueller investigating Trump, The Donald will have the breathing room to transmit to Vladimir, the nuclear launch codes.

    very idiosyncratic

  15. what I so much enjoy in this delightful exchange is no matter what I suggest, whether correct or useful or not, at least is a POSITION...In return, we see babyish name calling. Of course, Trump will not hand over the code...or, did he when he met alone with Putin and no one knows what he said or agreed to ...that, dear heart, has never happened in American political affairs.
THIS IS THE STUFF TRUE BELIEVERS SWALLOW DEEP THROAT STYLE

    ReplyDelete
  16. Of course if Putin agreed to anythhing that might benefit America when he and Putin met alone, Russian "deep state" officials would've executed him if it'd been made public anything that might benefit America. This is likely why the details of the Putin/Trump meeting can't be released. Putin fears Trump. The media has decided we can't know this.

  20. WNU,

I find it interesting, but not surprising, that you show incredible bias here, more so than you would normally show. Curious how you will believe this as it is in line with your own 'beliefs' despite the fact that it has been sourced from anonymous sources, and now its coming out that it may be pure garbage.

Yet you will flatout attack anything that says 'Trump did this, Trump says this' because, in your own words, you don't trust anonymous sources.

Apparently that's only true if it's only about Trump.
