ABC News Online: China accuses Canadians of stealing state secrets in wake of Huawei controversy
China has accused detained Canadian citizen Michael Kovrig of stealing state secrets that were passed on to him from another detained Canadian, Michael Spavor, in what is likely to further ramp up tension between Ottawa and Beijing.
Businessman Mr Spavor, who worked with North Korea, and former diplomat Mr Kovrig were picked up in early December, shortly after Canada arrested Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, who faces extradition to the United States.
China has repeatedly demanded Ms Meng be released, and reacted angrily last week when Canada's Government approved extradition proceedings against her.

you might think so and as well China advising it's people to avoid travel to Canada if they have put themselves at risk of ending up in the US.
If you are a country that abides by its agreements, a country that respects the law you do what is required even though there may well be difficult repercussions.
I am sure that a deal will be made to workaround this problem. Perhaps if we offered to allow China the opportunity display their naval power by parking some scary looking stuff in Vancouver Harbor for a spell ......
I add that at this point in time Canada is giving China massive support in its tariff war with the US. Something should count for something.

The Chinese steel dumping is continuing, which is why the U.S. will not remove the current tariffs on steel against Canada and Mexico.

My daughter-in-law has an older Hyundai that needed some serious repair. The mechanic, a friend of theirs, fixed it okay but told them they were really lucky he was able to get the parts he needed. Parts are apparently in short supply. He told them that so much stuff is arriving in our ports from China for on shipment to the US to by-pass the tariffs that offloading of regular shipping for Canadian destination.
is seriously delayed.
I have to wonder if companies in the US that get their stuff from China via Canada are't adding a bit to their prices anyway. A new kind of a double dip maybe.
