U.S. Practiced A Nuclear Strike Against Russia In March

David Axe, National Interest: U.S. Air Force B-52 Bombers Practiced a Nuclear Strike on Russia Last Month

The U.S. Air Force in early March 2019 deployed five B-52 bombers from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana to the United Kingdom. Some of the eight-engine, long-range planes flew mock nuclear attacks on Russian soil.

A crazy story.

The U.S. Air Force in early March 2019 deployed five B-52 bombers from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana to the United Kingdom. Some of the eight-engine, long-range planes flew mock nuclear attacks on Russian soil.

The American operation mirrors Russia's own simulated aerial raids. In recent years Russian bombers have stepped up their probes of NATO and allied air space, occasionally following flight profiles matching atomic bombing runs.

Six B-52s arrived at the Royal Air Force base at Fairford starting March 14, 2019. "The deployment of strategic bombers to the U.K. helps exercise RAF Fairford as United States Air Forces in Europe’s forward operating location for bombers," the Air Force stated.

  1. Given that we are in Cold War 2 irregardless of how we got here, we are in Cold War 2 a war we didn't need, can't readily afford, winning is going to be problematic at best, and even if we "win" what do we actually win?!!? Our survival I suppose. But we didn't need it in the first place!!

We are now in it much as people have blundered into wars in the past. This is no different I suppose. Since we are in it, it seems prudent to practice for a nuclear strike on our adversary. Furthermore I find it highly likely that America lacks the conventional military capabilities of major adversaries such as Russia and China. As such, we will probably need to rely more on our nuclear deterrent than Russia or China will hence practicing seems like a good idea. A number of reports appear to suggest Russia is getting ready for such a confrontation. Prudence would suggest we do so as well.

Mark my words if a war ever does escalate, Russia will nuke usa way before usa nukes Russia.

  2. "Russia knows it can win a normal war against usa/NATO." The simulations suggest Russia is very likely to win a war fought in eastern Europe. This coupled with the tendency of US officials to present overly Pollyanish outlooks about such things suggests that this is a real possibility. Hence Russia "know" it can win. Should a war ever escalate the USA might also win. As such, the USA knows it can "win." The only way to "know" for certain is to have the actual conflict escalate. I pray we do not get to that point.

Trump's diplomatic efforts early on in his presidency and the Summit had real promise. Unfortunately these were derailed by what seem to me to be unscrupulous elements on the part of the American political establishment. The fault does not entirely lie with America though. There were key junctures where the Russians could have acted to deescalate tensions and instead acted to ratchet them up. Bottom line: we are where we are now because of decisions made by both sides.

"Mark my words..." you know this how? Do you have inside information in real time? What you seem to suggest is that Russia is going to engage in a preemptive strike. Of course the US leadership feels extreme guilt over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As such, it is reasonable inference that it is VERY UNLIKELY that the US would launch a preemptive nuclear strike on anyone at anytime.

Essentially a black hole might pass through the outer solar system altering the orbit of Jupiter sending it careening into the inner solar system altering earth's orbit sending it into the sun!! Essentially the point is this is VERY UNLIKELY to happen. The US launching a preemptive nuclear strike on anyone is even less likely. For both there is some mathematical possibility as unlikely as they are.

Since the US is not going to launch a preemptive strike and a nuclear war does ensue, Russia would "nuke usa way before usa nukes Russia" as you say. This would seem to be all the more reason we need to be practicing a counter strike. Inf act, I have listed on this site multiple times an all out nuclear attack by Russia being the single greatest threat to America in terms of the devastation. I'm glad someone is finally realizing that this is something we need to be ready for and able to respond to.

I pray we never get to this point of a nuclear confrontation. It would seem as though if the Russians know we are capable of a retaliation we would be less likely to get to this point. As such, practicing for this is a prudent action. As the saying goes, "you want peace, prepare for war." A prepared person or country would seem less likely to be attacked.
