NextGov: FBI Wants Tech to Track Social Media for Criminals and Terrorists Before They Act

Proposals from interested vendors are due later this month.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations aims to acquire access to a “social media early alerting tool” that will help insiders proactively and reactively monitor how terrorist groups, foreign intelligence services, criminal organizations and other domestic threats use networking platforms to further their illegal efforts, according to a request for proposal amended this week.

The big question here is if searching through state and federal databases is part of this effort. I doubt it such it won't help much. But I am sure we'll here about some solution involving AI; that buzzword sells right now.

Connor Betts was a known wolf. So any additional money thrown at the problem will not matter in his case. I am not sure about the other guy.

So I think Feldhake is correct.
