National Interest: The Navy's Zumwalt 'Stealth' Destroyer Is a Real Threat to China and Russia
Or is it just a piece of junk? We take a look?
Key point: The Zumwalt is supposed to be the future of high-tech naval warfare.
As the USS Zumwalt progresses with combat activation, weapons integration and further preparations for operational combat, the Navy continues to more broadly scope its operational envelope and envision operations previously less emphasized mission areas for the ship.
Could the new destroyer actually wind up changing surface warfare?
While initially conceived, in large measure, as a littoral land attack platform, Navy program managers now say fast-progressing technology and the ship's performance thus far, will increasingly enable it to succeed in open or "blue water" combat should it engage is major power, force-on-force ocean warfare.

They said same thing about the f35 program now everybody wants one...give it time
Apparently the only group the Zumwalt class threatens is the US tax payer.
Silver,
I don't doubt that, I remember the Abrams and Bradley development programs ( it was said alot they were coffins) then the first Gulf War happened and everyone supported them.
But there's quite a bit to make fun of, I wonder if old Elmo Z. could have seen this?
The people that design these things have big paychecks and no skin in the game.
Take note of California's "Bullet Train" for incompetence. Not to mention a lack of a back-up if there's a screw-up.
The people that designed the ship are regular working class men and women. They are hardly rich and a lot of them are ex navy and the other branches. Not only that but they are all taxpayers who have sons and daughters who may serve on the ship they built.
Only with a functioning rail gun.
