  1. CHUDS, I was an orphan found in the gutter in a burlap sack with three onions in it for sustenance.

CHUDS. Today I own several dealerships and just purchased my fourth private jet.

CHUDS. I take Chloroquine six times a day and feel OK.

  2. Occasional Cortex (AOCc) says there is a disparity in deaths between whites and minorities.
So she wants money. I find the congresswoman deplorable.

She blames slavery, redlining and a few other things. In the mid 19th century and modern sanitation Cities always lost population and the difference had to be made up from rural areas. that is the cities were population sinks and the rural areas were population sources. Cities have always been a 2-edged sword. I do not know what Occasional Cortex was doing in college, but it wasn't getting a good education. Cities always did and always will get hit hard in a pandemic.

If cities get hit harder and most cites have a higher percentage of minorities, it follows that minorities will get harder hit. No racism involved. Democrats BTW usually run these cities. I mean they usually run them into the ground, literally. For instance NYC and Detroit.

Blacks are more susceptible to hypertension and thus are more likely to die from corona. It just is. It is also a 2-edged sword. They are also more likely to survive tropical diseases like yellow fever due to genetics. So if the world is warming due to AGW or just GW, it might work out to have African ancestry as mosquitoes and diseases extend their ranges.

So much for that ditz named Occasional Cortex.

  3. Sorry if I'm insensitive. But does 311,000 cases and 8,500 reported deaths - in the entire US - warrant national suicide?

    No. It doesn't.

    1. Russ,

Agreed!! When weighed against the worst case scenario offered by an actual government official of 2.2 million deaths if we did nothing, the costs in terms of lives lost in the coming years due to the extreme stress of the government's actions will far exceed 2.2 million. Extreme stress over extended periods weakens immune response and it exacerbates other chronic conditions. Even after the stressor is removed the patient often has lasting effects. This is very real and if the current policies are allowed to continue much longer the mid term death toll over the next few years as a result of this will far exceed 2.2 million. This is an easy prediction. Adding to this is the enormous economic costs of the current policies. On top of this the government can now cripple entire industries by fiat without a debate let alone a consultation with the affected stakeholders to try and find constructive solutions. Our Constitutional rughts have been wounded, perhaps mortally so.

When weighed agaisnt this doing absolutely nothing seems to be a preferable option. Perhaps we're both insensitive. I would add, while I have no wish to die and plan on sticking around for another 90 years until I reach 140 my own life isn't worth the carnage these policies have caused.

Furthermore my "gut" says they are playing with flawed models and have figured out. Other stakeholders besides the CDC are starting to squawk. Dr. Fauci had beefed up his security. I don't think this is a coincidence. I think he's concerned about those his policies have financially crippled may seek justice. Also, I'm sure he doesn't want such people to interrupt his five course steak dinners either!! Furthermore having acquired near absolute power I don't see Fauci relinquishing this voluntarily. Hence he's beefed up his security detail.

To make matters worse, POTUS seems utterly paralyzed to intervene. I pray I'm wrong about that. In his defense, this may be a no win situation for him. I've been in many of these. I could offer him advice. Carefully study the jo options and pick the one that us morally proper. In this case, it should be obvious. REOPEN THE ECONOMY AND DO IT NOW!!

    2. B. Poster, against the advice of every expert in the world, if you're happy to accept 2 million deaths then better to I vest it towards something like invading North Korea and come out with change to spare.
The world needs a total lock down and Pro active, unfortunately trump thought it was the flu and did to little to late.
We acted quick and copied Singapore model and our curve has now dropped from double digits to 9%.

    3. Fazman,

A better approach may have been to isolate those most vulnerable while the rest develop herd immunity. Unfortunately we weren't presented with any other options. Draconian shutdown or do nothing. Trump being the astute businessman clearly saw the costs associated with the Draconian shutdown and was understandably reluctant to implement it. To make matters worse, Trump and his team were busy with Afghanistan and the entire response was turned over to CDC. (It looks like we're FINALLY going to get out!!)

Very respectfully, read my post carefully. I do NOT like the prospect of 2 million dead. The mid range consequence of continuing the current policies will be far more dead Americans than 2 million.

The problem with invading North Korea is such an action will lead to FAR MORE than 2 million dead Americans. Their operatives are almost certain to hit the US mainland. The American death toll would likely be in the tens of millions along with no guarantee of victory.

"The world needs a total lockdown..." really!??! I think the "experts" are playing with flawed models. Other stakeholders are starting to squawk. Dr. Fauci has beefed up his security detail. Confidence, I think not. Many of these stakeholders who his policies have financially wounded and even crippled will want justice. Also, I don't think he wants his lavish lifestyle of five course steak dinners interrupted. He and his ilk have acquired great power through this. I don't envision them giving it up voluntarily. Hence security is being beefed up.

"Against the advice of every expert..." I sense an agenda by these people. In America an "expert" is often someone who a.) Was born into the right family, b.) used this connection to get into the right university. If you're not born into the right family, cultivate the necessary relationships to be in the in crowd. C.)Hold regularly meetings among your fellow travelers to formulate policies and ideas while using your clout to get government jobs. It's best to keep outsiders out of the process. D.) Cultivate relations with the media getting them to fawn over you while using your shield of "expert" to shield yourself from criticism while you and your media lackeys viciously attack all critics. E.) Rinse and repeat.

In my position I'm not really able to question the policies. I must act prayerfully with wisdom to respond properly to government actions to protect the lives of my family and our financial future. The critique coupled with actions will need to be left to others.

Brazilian leaders and others are defying these "experts." They're doing quite well. Gateway Pundit is essentially saying "whoa hold on Sparky!!" Could Fauci's beefed up security be used offensively? I suspect it could. I pray for the brave souls at Gateway Pundit.

A little more on infectious diseases, they tend to come in waves. In the first wave, this thing has gotten a good look at the human immune system. Due to lockdowns the human immune system hasn't had as much "study time." When it comes back through an adapted virus could be even more devastating. I pray I'm wrong about that.

What will ultimately beat this thing is strengthening our immune systems. The proper vitamins and a healthy lifestyle work wonders!! This is my recommendation.

    4. How, where?, Herd immunity requires 80 to 90% infection, then the deaths come.. If its your family you'd hang trump from a flag pole.

  4. WASHINGTON — As the first alarms sounded in early January that an outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China might ignite a global pandemic, the Trump administration squandered nearly two months that could have been used to bolster the federal stockpile of critically needed medical supplies and equipment.

A review of federal purchasing contracts by The Associated Press shows federal agencies waited until mid-March to begin placing bulk orders of N95 respirator masks, mechanical ventilators and other equipment needed by front-line health care workers.

By that time, hospitals in several states were treating thousands of infected patients without adequate equipment and were pleading for shipments from the Strategic National Stockpile. That federal cache of supplies was created more than 20 years ago to help bridge gaps in the medical and pharmaceutical supply chains during a national emergency.

Now, three months into the crisis, that stockpile is nearly drained just as the numbers of patients needing critical care is surging. Some state and local officials report receiving broken ventilators and decade-old dry-rotted masks.

  5. " As the first alarms sounded in early January ..."

Medical Expert Fauci whom Trump was relying on downplayed corona.

So what do you have to say for yourself Fred?

Wait, you have to read the NYT or WaPo to know what to say for yourself.

"** In January Dr. Anthony Fauci told Newsmax TV that the United States did not have to worry about the coronavirus.

Now, three months later, he wants to shut down every state!"

The problem with sheople err liberals is that "Mother May I" and "Simon sez" are not just games for them. They are ways of life.

Now run off little boy and find out what you are suppose to think.

  6. Fazman,

Troll or no troll, B Poster is not full of Mischievousness. He does it right on line #1, where most people are apt to remember (the beginning and the end).

"A better approach may have been to isolate those most vulnerable, while the rest develop herd immunity."

I don't remember, if you went to college or not, or if you ever said. Doesn't matter. If you went to college remember so of those mopes, who went to college and got sheepskins. Dr.t Fauci got a sheepskin and went through more than 1 wicket at the ivory greens, so one would suppose he has something upstairs. You would think.

Fauci is like a poltician. He has a track record. Look m at it. Fauci was the governments head HIV guy in the 80s and 90s. Look at his track record.

Also do a linear regression of AIDS funding compared to deaths. Whatever acumen Fauci had or has I think is in the shadow of bureaucratic politics.

  7. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Sunday that a better national strategy is needed to battle the coronavirus pandemic and that President Trump’s assertion that the federal government should not be the first line of defense against the contagion is “creating a more porous situation.”

Whitmer, a Democrat, did say she was grateful for the 400 ventilators her state had received from the federal government and added that she wasn’t waging any political attacks against Trump during the outbreak, but she added that the current “patchwork” approach to combatting the virus could lead to more people getting sick and dying.

“Not having a national strategy where there is one policy for the country as opposed to a patchwork based on who the governor is something I think is creating a more porous situation where COVID-19 will go on longer and more people may get sick and sadly more lives may get lost,” Whitmer said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

  10. Herd immunity coupled with quarantine of those who have risk factors.

If you have a blanket quarantine (1 size fits all) then you have to deal with the suicides. Joblessness causes suicides. It might be a OD, the bottle, suicide by cop or a regular suicide, but there are research papers on this sort of thing.

It is not we do this course of action (COA) and we get not extra deaths. Either COA will lead to deaths. It is just a mater of how much.

IMO shutting down the economy will lead to more deaths and a way higher loss of QALY than having a partial quarantine.

I told some of my family members to travel in February, when this was all hotting up.
