Russia Admits To Having The World's Third-Worst Covid-19 Death Toll

Russia reported a huge jump in the number of its recorded deaths from coronavirus Kirill KUDRYAVTSEV AFP

Russia on Monday reported more than three times more coronavirus deaths than previously announced, making it the nation with the third-highest number of fatalities, as countries across the globe ramped up vaccination campaigns in a bid to beat the pandemic.

More than 1.76 million people have died since the virus crisis erupted in China a year ago, upending lives and casting the global economy into chaos, with the United States and Brazil counting for the most fatalities.

Russia's Rosstat statistics agency said on Monday that the number of coronavirus deaths between January and November was 186,057 -- a huge jump from previously reported numbers from health authorities of 55,265 deaths from the disease.

WNU Editor: This pandemic has been brutal on Russia,. and no one was believing the official numbers. Myself included. So what we now know is that more than 186,000 Russians have died due to coronavirus, three times more than previously reported.

  1. The pandemic has been brutal on everyone. The government lockdowns have been even more brutal. Further complicating things is this naturally occurring pandemic like all of those before it vaccine or not will eventually burn itself out leaving the species with adaptations for fighting diseases that it did not have before. The bitter poverty and mental illness caused by the government response to this will ripple through our societies for decades. Remember poverty and mental illness lead to physical ailments that are debilitating even leading to death. An easy prediction is that the ultimate death toll from the government response to this will far exceed what the virus ever could have done UNLESS we can get this vaccine rolled out fast enough to stamp out the disease and stop the government madness but it may already be to late to undo the damage caused by the government response.

There is the additional problem of massive new debt that "western" governments have added allegedly to fight the disease. This is going to have to be paid back at some point and will hamper the ability of these governments to engage in certain activities in the future. Do to the need to service this debt, funds and resources may not be available to tackle far more serious problems in the future.

When seeing this, my first thoughts are "how is this possible" and "how is someone incapable of this level of incompetence?" There's simply no way someone or a team responsible for this type of thing could miss three times the number. There must be something else at work here.

Here in the US, the current death toll stands at 341,982 according to worldometers. Since some localities do not report over weekends or holidays we should expect to see a "spike" in cases at the end of today in the US. Keep in mind that Russia's population is only about 44% that of the US. These figures are from worldometers as well. So if the Russian death toll is adjusted for a population comparison with that of the United States the death toll would be approximately 400,000 meaning that Russia as a percentage has a higher death toll from this than the United States does.

I recall when Vladimir Putin was gloating about his country and he were doing so much better in containing COVID-19 than the United States and Trump were. It appears that in his hubris he spoke to soon. When dealing with this it is important for all leaders and everyone to understand do not get cocky. This is a very serious disease.

While I have read that Russia has largely resisted the insane idea of "lockdowns," I have no contact with Russia nor do I know any Russians I cannot verify this. Other than news sources I have knowledge of how Russia deals with this or reports there cases.

I can speak on how the US reports its cases. Those who are paying attention understand that due to the financial incentives that hospitals have to report deaths as caused by COVID combined with the testing kits that tend to err on the side of false positive US deaths from this are very likely vastly overstated. This is NOT to say that this is not a serious disease. It certainly is and pretty much all of know someone who has died from it, become very ill from it, or know multiple people who know people who have died from it.

Part irony is that had US leadership been more honest in how they reported this from the start as opposed to pushing fear porn for short to mid term gain it would probably be easier for them to convince people to the vaccine. Now fewer people trust them.

Perhaps the Russian leadership should not have been so cocky as to gloat at our misfortune with regards to this. It would appear that their deaths from this are much higher than ours. Having to do an adjustment of three times the number previously reported in one day is either a jaw dropping level of incompetence or there is something else at work.

  2. TL:DR,

I had to look up this to see what it meant. Sometimes detailed analysis takes time to compose and to read. I can understand why some do not want to take this time and effort. With that said in this case the post probably is to long!!
