CNN: Blinken warns talks with Iran can't go on indefinitely
(CNN)US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday that negotiations with Tehran over the Iran nuclear deal "cannot and will not go on indefinitely."
"We are committed to diplomacy, but this process cannot go on indefinitely," Blinken said at a press conference in Kuwait.
Referring to the deal by its formal name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the top US diplomat warned that time is running out to save the gains made by the 2015 agreement that offered Iran relief from sanctions and greater economic engagement in exchange for constraints on its nuclear program.
"At some point, the gains achieved by the JCPOA, cannot be fully recovered by a return to the JCPOA if Iran continues the activities that it's undertaken with regard to its nuclear program activities, that, of course, are breaking ... through the constraints imposed by the JCPOA," Blinken said.

"for what would become the geopolitical playing field in the region."
ReplyDeleteWhen isn't any region not a "geopolitical playing field " ?
It is just a matter of how much attention any particular country pats to any particular region. If the trials and ministrations are noticed by other powers and if the news media of your country actually knows what is going on or cares to report it accurately.
Remember the media are story tellers not objective analysts of the whole picture. The spotlight a dark world stage with 2 or 3 spotlights and weave a self serving tale.

Well Obama did something about the militant rise of China.
1) He had a slogan "Pivot to the Pacific".
2) He cut the defense budget.
What a better strategy than cutting the budget and replacing it with a slogan.
Obama da man! He so smart!
Blinky is afraid that if the talks drag into next year, people will see them for a sham and make the appropriate choices in the midterms. Blinky is also afraid that people will see him appropriately get nothing done doofus.
