American service members will likely be in a worse financial situation next year because of soaring inflation, despite President Joe Biden authorizing a Pentagon-wide press increase earlier this week, a former Army Major General said on Wednesday.
John G. Ferrari, now a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Fox that 'for Troops at the lowest part of the pay scale, the cost of gas and food may drive some deeper into debt, or they may rely more on food banks.'

If inflation calls for a significant increase, then why not a big change in min wage?

Basic Allowance for Subsistence (Food)
Basic Allowance for Quarters (Housing)
Clothing Allowance In years past it did not cover the cost of clothing required.
Health does not cover family members.
*** Does not cover the fact that spouse have a very hard time finding a job. So in an era odf two incomes are needed for a family, a spouse might find themselves unemployed or underemployed.

Addendum: there often is less housing stock than service members, which means that you have to rent. So of the rent costs are covered, but can you be assured of it?
