In Russia's Eyes This Is No Longer A Proxy War

Is the Ukraine-Russia war a proxy world war? 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says it is, saying NATO is “using Ukraine as a battering ram against the Russian state. … Russia is the target of one of the most ruthlessly proxy wars in modern history.” 

U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, in a Washington Post article, confirmed the American goal is to weaken Russia, saying, “the only way to deal with a rogue regime is to reduce its capacity for harm.”

WNU Editor: The attack on Russia's Nord Stream pipelines has definitely raised the stakes on this proxy war into something else. This was the first major attack outside of the war-zone, and in the eyes of many in Russia this was an American operation. Add this infrastructure attack with the continuous economic warfare that is being waged by the West and the rhetoric that is coming from the White House and other US officials, how can this not be a proxy world war?
