A Russian airbase where a major attack was being prepared against Ukraine has been hit by a suspected drone attack that damaged two long-range bombers.
The Engels-2 airbase, near the city of Saratov, was hit by an explosion in the early hours of Monday that left two Tu-95 bombers - which have been used to carry out airstrikes on Ukraine's infrastructure - damaged.
Another explosion hit a Russian military base near the city of Ryazan, killing three and wounding five after a fuel truck detonated.

WNU Editor: If this was a Ukrainian drone strike, it sends a message that the Kremlin itself can be targeted. Check out the distance that these drones had to fly to hit their targets relative to Moscow from the image below.

It says something about Russia's airdefences.
ReplyDeleteThe air defenses are there. The problem is that drones can fly low to evade them. Ukraine is a big country. Russia is an even bigger country. Covering all territory with air defense systems is impossible. Ukraine has learned that lesson in the past two months. Russia is going to learn that lesson even more so in the coming months.
ReplyDeleteWhilst true 11.13 remains valid. This airbase would have point air defence and most likely CIWS and multiple Pantsir systems, they failed miserably.
DeleteOuch. The cook is forced to sample his own dish.
ReplyDeleteKnocking out one leg of the triad. Putin is not very good at cost benefit analysis. He is all back of the classroom with Obama.
ReplyDeleteLikely NATO supplied and NATO operated. Russia has a serious issue with military competence, but are also up against the most modern weapon systems and the brightest minds the west has to offer. How long before North Korea comes in to help out?
ReplyDeleteHopefully, they got the roots of the wings.
ReplyDeleteI blame Obama
