* Public confidence in the U.S. military continues to decline
* Drops seen across party groups, but Republicans remain most confident
* Independents least likely to express confidence this year
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans are now less likely to express “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the U.S. military, with a noticeable decline that has persisted for the past five years.

My confidence in the US military is negatively affected by all of the skirt-wearing male soldiers/sailors requesting sex reassignment surgery.
^^ That. Gender demented persons have zero business anywhere near sensitive information and/or dangerous machines. And the feckless so-called leadership kvetching about "toxic masculinity" and "warrior class" are bent on destroying it.
These gender confused peoples are on government salary and can skip deploying their entire career. It’s a clown world.
This poll just reflects the current culture in this society.
The current military is a Significant departure from our prior "traditional" military.
American prowess is in money and technology. We can finance a great military organization and fill it with unbelievable machines.
This has been the trend since WW2. We will see if this trend can make up for mental weakness which has thrown out common sense.
Nothing can remain at high levels forever. Its unrealistic to expect otherwise.
Who gives a fuck about what the average non military person thinks about the military?
I recall many years ago crossing the country and there were many soldiers on board the train, wearing uniforms. A small kid behind me said to his mother: Look Mommy. There are more soldiers than people. Only a kid but it tells a truth. We look down on our ordinary military till there is a real need for them.
then: thank you for your service.
as the saying had it to the hookers outside the gates to Ft Dix: thank you for your service.
Of course it will continue to decline. I'm retired military with to many deployments and I am discouraging anyone who ask not to enter the military at this time. Your not wanted unless you check the correct boxes.
It'll take somethng like a Bataan surrender, Task Force Smith slaughter situation in Korea, a Desert One fiasco like in Iran in 1980 or more recently the Navy losing a light carrier in port (USS Bon Honmme Richard) due to a fire, No one was really held accountable. Afghanistan withdrawal mess was the icing on the cake.
It will take an epic disaster to bring the miltary back into focus on what its real job is- protect the country, fight and win wars.
